Sunday Sundown Rundown - 9/13/13

3 Up

1. MLB LCS Pitching - Even without my beloved Yankees, I knew the MLB playoffs would be spectacular this year. So far, it has been. However, the pitching performances we have seen in both League Championship series have been ultra phenomenal. It's been must see television.

2. Bob Costas - I don't always agree with Costas who at times seems a bit outdated on some of his takes when it comes to sports, especially baseball. However, his recent words regarding the controversy surrounding the "Redskins" name was well done. Also, kudos to him for taking a stand on an issue many reporters in the sport's field have been shying away from.

3. Boston Sports - As a native New Yorker this hurts me to place at number three, but on a day that the Patriots come back to win on a beautiful pass by Tom Brady and the Red Sox score five runs in two innings that included a dramatic David Ortiz grand slam home run, it deserves the spot. All of New England must be sleeping well very happily tonight.

3 Down

1. Government Shut Down - It's hard to have faith in a government that believes this is the best route to helping and fixing our country's issues.

2. Death of Adrian Peterson's Child - I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to lose a child. For NFL star, Adrian Peterson, to lose his child via beating from the mother's boyfriend is horrific. What in the world could a two year old do to cause you to do something like that? How could you even do that to a two year old? Some people are just sick.

3. Giants Fans - I said my peace this week (To Giants Fans: Shut Up and Appreciate Manning) when it came to Giants fans. I know the rough season has worn on them a bit, but the over-the-top blame on Eli Manning is ridiculous.

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
