Sunday Sundown Rundown - 9/30/18

1. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford - Classy. Clutch. Those are the first words that arise to me when it came to Dr. Ford and her proceedings during this week's hearing. She was absolutely gracious and poised in an environment that is meant to break others, and was the reasoning why many sexual assault victims do not come forward. Do I believe her? Honestly, I very much do. Especially after seeing Judge Kavanugh's super defensive outbursts and answers. 

2. Elevator Women to Sen. Flake - Kudos to these women. They took activism straight to the lawmakers themselves, and forced them to listen. This, honestly, might be my favorite thing of 2018 thus far. 

3. MLB Weekend - What a weekend. We had the goodbyes (in various forms) to David Wright, Joe Mauer, Adrian Beltre among others, and we have an awesome week lineup with two tie-breaker games tomorrow leading into the playoffs. Gimme all the baseball as we prepare to be without it soon.

1. Kavanaugh Hearing - What. A. Mess. So incredibly ridiculous how politics gets in the way of simply doing a background check, and wanting to make sure the candidate at hand is fit for the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh, even if he gets on (which, I also believe he will - cause, you know, 'Merica), will forever have this tied to him. By the way, I still have no idea waht Lindsey Graham was trying to say in his "epic rant". SMH. 

2. Indonesia- Absolutely horrific to hear of the damage done in Indonesia after this week's natural disasters. Yes, plural. Over 800 are feared dead after a huge earthquake AND tsunami hit the country. Just awful 

3. Kanye West - I think it's fair to say, the black community has DFA'ed Kanye West. Forget the MAGA hat and Trump praising on SNL this weekend - that's his opinion. But did this dude really just say we need to "get rid of the 13th amendment"? You know, the very thing protected people of color - heck ME - from being trapped in the bondage of slavery and working the fields somewhere? Man, get outta here.

SNL - I don't watch SNL anymore, but kudos to Matt Damon and the crew from SNL on the spoof of Kavanaugh and the ridiculous hearing. "I'm an optimist. I'm a keg full kind of guy". Classic stuff.

Would You Rather: Questions 121-130

This edition of "Would You Rather" is credited to the NBA Would You Rather NBA Account on Instagram ( See Here ). Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Yankees Postseason 2026, ALDS vs. Rays

This is easily the most anticipated series (and most expected?) for the New York Yankees. The two best teams during the regular season were expected to clash to determine American League prominence.  And yes, I agree that this upcoming series says a lot about the broken playoff structure in MLB. Allow me to step onto my soapbox for a mere moment... Up we go... I've never been a fan of the expansion to six teams per league. I understand that it keeps more markets in the playoff picture come September, and it is more revenue for all (likely, the biggest reason for the expansion). Still, all it did was create a scenario where division winners were at a disadvantage, and what we're getting here is the two best teams in the league facing off in a five-game series.  Ultimately, the Tampa Bay Rays, the top seed in the American League, are given the second-best record in their first-round, in a best-of-five?  None of this makes sense.  Stepping off now... Yankees Postseason 2026, Wild Card vs. Boston Red Sox

And we're back with another one of these read-along series. It wasn't too long ago that I found myself writing every other night as my Knicks marched their way to an NBA Championship.  Man, that still feels so good to indulge in.  But here we are on a similar journey for the Yankees.  Call me crazy, but I'm just not buying that the World Series is confirmed for anyone. Baseball has been weird all year, and part of said weirdness has been the parity, or dreadfulness - however you want to look at it - around MLB. In my opinion, the Yankees' pitching depth gives them a legit chance.  And with a lockout looming, 2027 might not present another chance. Why you gotta go there, man?
