Dome Pondering Movie Review: The Ride (2018)

What is it about?

Based on a true story of an eventual BMX Champion who overcame an abusive childhood, a white supremacist upbringing, the elements of the foster care system, and the nuances of an interracial foster family.

Who is in it?

Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges - Eldridge Buultjens

Shane Graham - John Buultjens

Sasha Alexander - Marianna Buultjens

Favorite Scene:

Embarrassed to be seen by his new foster parents, specifically Eldridge, who is black, John ducks into his back seat upon being dropped off at school. Eldridge makes light of the situation by mentioning what he packed for lunch before putting the window down and asking out loud to students about PTA opportunities.

Favorite Quote:

None.

Review:

The Ride was surely a welcome surprise. Upon seeing the trailer, I figured to get a formulaic film about troubled youth, intersect some social norms being challenged, the youth overcomes and changes, happy they live - the end. Well, we got that, but it's the middle part that was so interesting. Go figure, the journey of this formulaic film - the ride of it - is what makes this such a good watch.

The core story is a great one. In many ways it's the very PG version of American History X. The best part about the film is indeed the acting, especially that of Chris Bridges aka Ludacris. We've seen Luda in some big office hits, specifically his role in Fast and Furious. However, he shows some more range in this film, making it a great watch.

By the end of the film, I was indeed invested in the characters, even though the outcome was forecasted before the movie even began. That's a great sign. It's a great feel-good movie that tackles some interesting issues and tells a great redemption story.

Give it a watch.

Would You Rather: Questions 121-130

This edition of "Would You Rather" is credited to the NBA Would You Rather NBA Account on Instagram ( See Here ). Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Would you rather have Giannis Antetokounpo with no driving ability or James Harden with no Three-Point shooting ability?  This is definitely a weird and unique one, but I'll take Harden. Giannis without his strength doesn't offer much. However, if Harden's d...

Dome Pondering Move Review: Say You Will (2017)

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Knicks Postseason 2026, 2nd Round vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Well, it's the Sixers in Round 2.  Review Thoughts from Round 1 The Celtics messed around and found out. And now, we have the red-hot Sixers in a very intriguing second-round matchup. Before even diving into the series, I immediately think about that 2023-2024 1st Round match-up that I often refer to as the series that took years off of my life.  Then again, there was Divo's shot that will forever bring a smile . There is also this dunk from OG Anunoby on Embiid (certified, real Garden villain): The 76ers are super talented on paper. And they have an incredibly high ceiling if healthy and playing together. The Celtics just found that out. That is my biggest fear for this round! When I boil all the stats, actions, sets, and the simple eye-test assessment down to a simple thing, what's left is this: can the Knicks stop contain Tyrese Maxey? Can the 76ers defend a Karl-Anthony Towns pick-and-roll (or pick-and-pop)? That's it.  My Key Matchup: Karl-Anthony Towns vs. Joel ...
