Sunday Sundown Rundown - 9/6/20

3 Up

1. Bloomberg's $100M Gift for Black Doctors - While we can still poke fun of Bloomberg's Presidential attempt - all five minutes of it (sorry, I tried) - his attempt to solve the issue of the shortage of black doctors (as well as the disproportionate rate of lacking healthcare for black America) is commendable. The initiative is interesting, and really, is a window into how so many billionaires can truly solve many of the world's problems if they tried - or cared.

2. Mike Trout - Trout is starting to go down as probably the best athlete to not have any type of buzz. Trout smashed his 300th career home run, moving him past Tim Salmon (Trout passes Salmon, hey yo!) on the Angels All-Time Homerun list. Trout is at 300 Homeruns at the age of 29. Baseball needs to get Trout into the playoffs...badly.

3. Labor Day Weekend - And suddenly, it was Labor Day. I'm still reeling and trying to make sense of the events of Memorial Day, but 2020 trucks on, and we're in the last quarter of this awful year.

3 Down

1. Pandemic Evictions - The CNN spotlight into what is happening regarding evictions around the country made it's way around social media, and really, it was a tough piece to get through. However, this is the reality our economic standard with limited job outlook and a poor economy. It's very disheartening,

2. College Campuses (and Towns) - College campuses are struggling with outbreaks, tons of furloughs across campus, limited opportunity for education exploration, and the rise of struggles for so many businesses in college towns that rely on campus activity.

3. "Losers" and "Suckers" - I don't get into some of these stories, which are usually some sort of disorientated story of the left playing up stories and the right ignoring or changing the narrative. However, this story has some serious smoke with both sides confirming the story. Shame on the President.

1 Clown

1. Novak DJokivic - Dude, that was an ass move. I'm really not buying the accident excuse, either.

1 Missed

1. Tom Seaver - I never saw Seaver, but hearing and seewing from Mets fans what he meant to the Mets and to baseball - not to mention the numbers he put up - all of it is incredible. 2020 has not been kind.

We always think,  what would we say  to our  younger self? However,  what would  our younger self say  if they met us, today?

Turning 40 - Grateful and Renewed

I became a forty-year-old individual yesterday.  The milestone is very significant for many and has its societal measures and benchmarks that carry some fear for those approaching its gates. Regardless of approach, turning 40 is filled with reflection, pondering (of course), and preparation for what should be a "new" stage of life. A life stage centered around "transitioning" into a stage seen as the "pre-senior" years.  Sure. Whatever.  I won't disagree that the new "4" digit that sits in front of your age feels encompassing even without understanding completely. Yet, as I stated last year when I turned 39 (going into my 40th year on this earth), I was ready for it. Ready for 40. Today, oddly enough, I am not filled with profound life lessons, ponderings, or reflections.  I sit here, punching the keys, filled with gratitude. I am 40, and I love it.   I carry my baggage of life and bear scars from it at 40. I am grateful for so many experien...

Knicks Trauma - Ugh Not Again

Well, that was a kick in the stomach.  Coming off a week where the word "catharsis" was used as the description for the euphoria and release of joy from two and a half decades of suffering, Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers brought about another word - trauma.  Watching the Knicks collapse was the kind of moments that come with these deep runs and moments. NBA Playoff basketball will do that. Yet, this loss - this one - feels about as bad as the 2004 ALCS when the Yankees collapsed in the series to the Boston Red Sox.  That one carries some serious trauma. Luckily, the series isn't over.  Some other quick thoughts from this awful, awful night, New York Knicks Basketball.  - Not to conjure up hyperbole, or even contribute to "hot take" sports reaction culture - but this might have been the worst loss in Knicks franchise history. I cannot think of another in my lifetime, or historically.  - Tyrese Haliburton's "choke"...
