Dome Pondering Movie Review: Miracle (2004)

What it's about?

The story of Coach Herb Brooks and the 1980 Unites States hockey Olympic team at its journey leading up to one of the greatest upsets in sports history.

Who is in it?

Kurt Russel - Herb Brooks

Patricia Clarkson - Patty Brooks

Noah Emmerich - Craig Patrick

Favorite Scene

After several training and workout scenes where the players introduced themselves, their hometowns and the colleges and university they played for, coach Herb Brooks decides to teach them a lesson after a sub par effort in an exhibition game. Brooks lines them up, and has them skate drills over, and over, each time blowing the whistle and yelling, "again". Finally, after complete and utter exhaustion, Mike Eruzione screams out, "Mike Eruzione! Winthrop, Massachussetts!" Brooks responds, "Who do you play for?" Eruzione says, "The United States of America"

Favorite Quote

Coach Craig Patrick: "You're missing the best players"
Coach Herb Brooks: "I'm not looking for the best players, Craig, I'm looking for the right players.

Review
Miracle is a rare sports movie that had a clear and distinct plot, with one major focus. Albeit a true story, Miracle does a great job of capturing the development of the 1980 United States team, and the progression of the team's chemistry and hard work. Kurt Russell continues the greatness with his portrayal of Coach Herb Brooks as a maniacal, mad scientist of a hockey coach.

The best part about Miracle is the integrity it maintains by capturing and portraying the story and game between the USA and USSR. Miracle, despite being a Disney movie, leaves out the cheesy music, lines, and "sudden surges" of big plays often seen in sports movies. Instead, it gives a lengthy amount of time to the final game with hard hitting action, great camera angles, and a great feel of intensity and suspense, thus truly recreating the moment in Lake Placid.

Dome Pondering Move Review: Say You Will (2017)

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Dome Pondering - 2025 Year in Review

2025 brought depth and growth.  In many ways, 2025 provided so many challenges and opportunities, allowing for a deeper, more layered approach to the world we live in. Our world is changing, and often, not for the better. Over the last 365 days, life has been more complex, more exhausting, and is asking so much more of us through these transitions and nuances than it did 365 days ago.  No big deal, right?  But hey, you're here. We're here. And we're going into 2026 much stronger, whether we realize it or not. But before we do, let's bid adieu to 2025.  As always, I'm incredibly gratefu l to those of you who still visit this little speck of the internet that houses my thoughts, rambles, and learnings. Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/11/19

3 Up 1. Eva Ramon Gallegos Cure HPV - Could Cervical Cancer be a thing of the past? It very much looks like it as after twenty years of work, Gallegos has found a cure that completely eliminates the cancer. This is remarkable work, and it's pretty awesome to see the Mexican Medical community come together proudly in this achievement. 2. "This is America" Grammy - Finally!! Childish Gambino got some national love for the work he did on this great song, and even more so, on the overall art/video that was "This is America". Of course, he wasn't there to pick it up as the Grammys and their long standing issue with the hip-hop community continues... 3. Women at SOTU - Women continue to be bad ass in the current age. Their solidarity within the Capitol for the President's SOTU was a great sight to see. 3 Down 1. Venezuela Crisis - The country of Venezuela is in absolute shambles right now as they tussle over leadership, and really, a move toward d...
