Dome Pondering Movie Review: Madagascar (2005)

What’s it about?

Four animals are spoiled by their upbringing and current lives in the New York City Central Park Zoo. After the realization of their monotonous lives, one dares on a mission to seek the wild. After an occurrence of events, all four animals end up stranded in a region known as Madagascar.

Who is in it?

Ben Stiller – Alex

Chris Rock – Marty

David Schwimmer – Melman

Jada Pinkett-Smith – Gloria

Favorite Scene:

After planning for sometime, the Penguins in the zoo finally execute their plan to head towards what they believe is paradise in Antarctica. After various events which include taking over a large ship, and thousands of miles of travel, the penguins finally arrive. They stand on the continent in the midst of the freezing cold and whipping winds where one utters, “This sucks!”

Favorite Quote:

[on the subway, Alex roars at a guy hiding behind a newspaper
Alex: “Augh! Knicks lost again!”
Melman: Eh. Whatcha gonna do?

Review:

Madagascar is yet another of the long line of animation movies that hurried to the big screen during this decade. As the concept grows (as it should) the overall quality amongst them begin to vary. However, Madagascar falls under the umbrella of those that are fun to watch.

Now, I state that off the heels of watching the first two renditions of the Ice Age series, which seemed like they would never end. Yet, attempting to not let that influence an opinion here, Madagascar is film that is fun, only for its cute humor, and quirky jokes. The plot is one that can offer a lot (especially since there is more following the original), and gives the movie direction, which cannot be said for Ice Age. Sorry, I tried.

Madagascar is recommended if you have a little time (90 minutes) and look to relax with some humor. Definitely watchable, but not a desired, must-watch animation like some of the others out there.

Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Would you rather have Giannis Antetokounpo with no driving ability or James Harden with no Three-Point shooting ability?  This is definitely a weird and unique one, but I'll take Harden. Giannis without his strength doesn't offer much. However, if Harden's d...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/15/26

Sunday Sundown Rundown returns! Going forward, I'll be sharing thoughts and ponderings in a format of three simple thoughts, opposed to the former "3 Up, 3 Down" of the past.   Mother of Savannah Guthrie I haven't been closely following the developments. I've checked in here and there, mostly hoping that this horrific story comes to an end. I simply continue to sympathize with concern, as not only are the emotions of having one's mother kidnapped for ransom more than enough to bear, but to have it played out publicly, before the nation, helplessly, is an unfathomable reality to understand. And of course, as all things in this culture, the story has been manipulated, pulled apart, and coerced into political representations that are not true, or at the very worst, worthy of discussion considering that someone's life - a person's mother - is at stake.  Winter Olympics It's not my favorite. Summer Olympics are my jam. Nonetheless, this Winter Olympics...

The Pondering 10 - 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend

Contrary to the discourse that always surrounds the NBA All-Star Weekend, I genuinely enjoyed the weekend, and even more so, the All-Star Game. No, for real. All love here.  Although the Dunk Contest really is on its last legs. That was tough to watch.  Nonetheless, I'm keeping it all good vibes on this one as a fan. JB vs. KAT Moment Big Knicks homer moment here. If you frequent these parts, you already know that. Watching the Captain go at KAT brought a moment of joy for all of us in Knicks fandom. Neither one came away with anything. I'm just glad they're in perfect health as we head toward the second half of the season with the Playoffs looming.  9.
