Dome Pondering Movie Review: Gone Girl (2014)

What is it about?

When his wife disappears, the situations goes public and then becomes an issue for a man when the spotlight is turned on him as his innocence is questioned.

Who is in it?

Ben Affleck - Nick Dunne

Rosamund Pike - Amy dunne

Neil Patrick Harris - Desi Collins

Tyler Perry - Tanner Bolt

Favorite Scene:

After the accusations continued to mount, Nick agreed to do a national interview which turned the tide of the set-up, and the entire situation.

Favorite Quote:

"When I think of my wife, I always think of the back of her head. I picture cracking her lovely skull, unspooling her brain, trying to get answers. The primal questions of a marriage: What are you thinking? How are you feeling? What have we done to each other? What will we do?"

Review:

After finishing "Gone Girl", one will definitely be left thinking a myriad of things. For one, "holy crap that was twisted" will be the first, but most likely followed up by "but that was a really, really good film!". That's exactly what I said. And truthfully, that is because it is. Gone Girl is a bit long with a somewhat skeptical ending, but very enticing. The film has an interesting, methodical build that plays on the incremental segments of each side of the story making for a great pace and overall, a spectacular film.

Gone Girl also left this viewer, as it probably did with all viewers, with thoughts about how we change and how we change others within our marriage, how we pretend to be different people with certain people, how the mass media can portray what they want of whomever they want, and of course, how narcissism affects it all. Are we ever truly just ourselves with others? Scary stuff.

As always, Ben Affleck was solid. Tyler Perry was as well (I actually enjoy him more as an actor than his directed movies). However, after watching this film, no viewer can disagree that Rosamund Pike in the role of Anna Dunne stole each scene and eventually the movie. She just has the twisted individual gimmick down. So well done.

All in all, Gone Girl is phenomenal. Be sure to check it out. I guarantee you'll be left saying the exactly same statements I did.

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
