Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/19/20

3 Up

1. First Responders/Medical Professionals - It's been a while since we've given some love to the truest heroes of 2020. With the virus surging in 40 states, and certain regions beginning to show signs and Deja Vu visions of what happened here in New York, I continue to think about all of those individuals on the front lines. A recent piece on NBC News is a great reminder of this sacrifice.

2. Life of John Lewis/CT Vivian - The legendary civil rights activists passed away this week. It seems easy to place this in the "down" section, but both men's lives were so full of impact and influence, we ought to celebrate them.

3. Chris Wallace - It was honestly refreshing to see Wallace's interview with President Trump. In my opinion, that was the first time I've seen a reporter hold the President accountable on questions and also didn't make it about being a "gotcha" or combative situation, or, a fluff fanboy piece for the President. What we got were the typical mistruths from Trump, but also, a few moments where he actually stumbled into a clearer idea of what he believes (whether it is right or wrong).

3 Down

1. Coronavirus - This is returning to the levels of worry I had back in March when the virus raged here in New York City. The reports of freezer trucks helping with deceased bodies at hospital morgues, overwhelmed medical professionals, and a shortage of supplies, are the type of stories that makes you wonder where exactly are we in fighting this Pandemic.

2. Gun Violence - The gun violence around the country, especially in our urban areas, is very troubling, and downright sad. These communities of color have to do better, have to be better. Especially if we're saying Black Lives Matter. They HAVE to matter.

3. Kanye West - That "rally" was embarrassing. It really was. Kanye is a top-five example of separating the artist from the person.

1 WTF & SMH

1. Portland, Oregon - EVERYTHING that is happening right in Portland, Oregon is wild. All of the stories. All of it. Be safe out there, folks.

3 Up 1. Eva Ramon Gallegos Cure HPV - Could Cervical Cancer be a thing of the past? It very much looks like it as after twenty years of work, Gallegos has found a cure that completely eliminates the cancer. This is remarkable work, and it's pretty awesome to see the Mexican Medical community come together proudly in this achievement. 2. "This is America" Grammy - Finally!! Childish Gambino got some national love for the work he did on this great song, and even more so, on the overall art/video that was "This is America". Of course, he wasn't there to pick it up as the Grammys and their long standing issue with the hip-hop community continues... 3. Women at SOTU - Women continue to be bad ass in the current age. Their solidarity within the Capitol for the President's SOTU was a great sight to see. 3 Down 1. Venezuela Crisis - The country of Venezuela is in absolute shambles right now as they tussle over leadership, and really, a move toward d...

Dear Son, Uniquely Two!

--- 2 Years Old --- Dear Son,  Happy Birthday! I have to get used to you sharing a birthday with Jesus - that's still no easy thing to do.  However, you're now two years old! And while I write this, you haven't really been able to celebrate, more so your birthday. At a mere two years old, you're rife with germs and succumbed to a nasty bug, rendering you sick on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (your birthday), and the days to follow. Everyone here for the holidays was unable to give you that moment, and really, we weren't able to get that moment on your second birthday.  The day aside, I'm grateful for the little guy that you are. In one of my previous notes to you, I mentioned " That's Milo " and you've continued to express that. You're very unique - a character in every way. The complete opposite, thus far, of your brother in so many ways.  Even with your limited speech as a toddler, I love how decisive you are - with your "Yesshhhs...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/9/25

3 Up 1. Eagles Defensive Live - I'm no football aficionado or even a huge fan - but what the Eagles front four on defense did was dominating.  1a. Philadelphia Eagles - Congratulations to Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia on the Super Bowl win.  2. Kendrick Lamar - I'm sure it'll be controversial - we all knew it would be going in. Throwing my two cents into the arena of public opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed Kendrick's performance. I'm a fan, so that's easy. Tough night to be Drake though. Yikes!  3. Human-Like Teeth in Pigs - Science can be cool. But stories like this are absolutely amazing.  3 Down 1. Plan for Education? - Look, I'm all for cutting wasteful spending from the government. However, I also want to know the plan to replace or support the areas that are being cut. Eliminating the Department of Education? Ok, cool. What's the plan after that? 2. USAID - We live in a VERY blessed country. My heart is with the countries and people who re...
