Sunday Sundown Rundown - 5/9/21

3 Up

1. Mother's Day - Always a special day! Happy Mother's Day to the many mothers out there - those who are here, those who are gone, those who have lost, and those who stepped in and serve in the role.

Mother's truly are incredible - I'm lucky now to witness my wife in it every day.

2. Russell Westbrook - Can we please stop hating on Westbrook? Enjoy the talent and what we are experiencing every time he plays. Triple-Doubles aren't easy - I'm so tired of that false narrative trying to become a thing in "evaluating" hoops. Westbrook is special. 181 career triple-doubles, tying Oscar Robertson, that's really cool.

3. MLB No-Hitters - Ditto on the no-hit discussion as just mentioned on triple-doubles. Just because we've seen quite a few no-hitters this year (and this week!) doesn't mean it's suddenly not special anymore. Yes, pitching has gotten better, but it's also so much tougher to do with the pitching philosophy of today and all of the limitations that come with it.

BTW - If not for a dropped third strike, John Means would have tossed a PERFECT GAME! Let's just celebrate it when we get it.

3 Down

1. Florida Voting Bill - Well, if you thought Georgia and SB 202 was controversial, you had to know Florida would say, oh yeah, hold my beer! The Sunshine State has now passed SB90 with similar sanctions on voting measures as Georgia did. With many of the surface reasons leading the way, the bill carries underlying rules and policies that target specific voting demos - it's very unfortunate.

2. Coronavirus in India - India continues to struggle with an outbreak of the Coronavirus that very much looks like what flooded our television sets in April 2020. Hospitals continue to be placed under great stress, and death tolls have risen. As the world looks to transition into a "new normal", it is tough and concerning to see a large country like India not only regress into stages of the pandemic most of the world are moving on from.

3. Return of Firing Squad Executions - I'm not going to debate the lesser "form of impact and hurt" to the body for the death penalty. No, no. Quite frankly, it's an uncomfortable discussion. However, with states running out of doses for the lethal injection, especially as death penalty decisions are rising, states, such as South Carolina, are now looking at the return of "firing squads" as a measure to use.

I don't know, despite the anonymity or whatever used in the process for the individual being executed, I can't wrap my mind around this being humane. What does that say about those on the firing squad?

As you can tell, this story bothered me this week.

1 Random

Chinese Rocket Down to Earth - "A Chinese rocket is headed toward earth, and we have no idea where it's going to land. Experts aren't worried, though."

That was a quote from a news report I watched this week.

What a time to be alive...

3 Up 1. Eva Ramon Gallegos Cure HPV - Could Cervical Cancer be a thing of the past? It very much looks like it as after twenty years of work, Gallegos has found a cure that completely eliminates the cancer. This is remarkable work, and it's pretty awesome to see the Mexican Medical community come together proudly in this achievement. 2. "This is America" Grammy - Finally!! Childish Gambino got some national love for the work he did on this great song, and even more so, on the overall art/video that was "This is America". Of course, he wasn't there to pick it up as the Grammys and their long standing issue with the hip-hop community continues... 3. Women at SOTU - Women continue to be bad ass in the current age. Their solidarity within the Capitol for the President's SOTU was a great sight to see. 3 Down 1. Venezuela Crisis - The country of Venezuela is in absolute shambles right now as they tussle over leadership, and really, a move toward d...

Dear Son, Uniquely Two!

--- 2 Years Old --- Dear Son,  Happy Birthday! I have to get used to you sharing a birthday with Jesus - that's still no easy thing to do.  However, you're now two years old! And while I write this, you haven't really been able to celebrate, more so your birthday. At a mere two years old, you're rife with germs and succumbed to a nasty bug, rendering you sick on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (your birthday), and the days to follow. Everyone here for the holidays was unable to give you that moment, and really, we weren't able to get that moment on your second birthday.  The day aside, I'm grateful for the little guy that you are. In one of my previous notes to you, I mentioned " That's Milo " and you've continued to express that. You're very unique - a character in every way. The complete opposite, thus far, of your brother in so many ways.  Even with your limited speech as a toddler, I love how decisive you are - with your "Yesshhhs...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/9/25

3 Up 1. Eagles Defensive Live - I'm no football aficionado or even a huge fan - but what the Eagles front four on defense did was dominating.  1a. Philadelphia Eagles - Congratulations to Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia on the Super Bowl win.  2. Kendrick Lamar - I'm sure it'll be controversial - we all knew it would be going in. Throwing my two cents into the arena of public opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed Kendrick's performance. I'm a fan, so that's easy. Tough night to be Drake though. Yikes!  3. Human-Like Teeth in Pigs - Science can be cool. But stories like this are absolutely amazing.  3 Down 1. Plan for Education? - Look, I'm all for cutting wasteful spending from the government. However, I also want to know the plan to replace or support the areas that are being cut. Eliminating the Department of Education? Ok, cool. What's the plan after that? 2. USAID - We live in a VERY blessed country. My heart is with the countries and people who re...
