Sunday Sundown Rundown - 6/26/22

3 Up

1. Celebrating Title IX - We celebrated 50 years of Title IX reign in our country this past week, including the many benefits it has provided for equality within the education system - most notably for women.

Of course, only we can celebrate something for women in the same week as we slam the same demo with controversial rulings.

2. COVID-19 Vaccines for Under 5 Yrs - It feels like we've completely moved on from the pandemic, however, the latest vaccines for children under five truly are a gamechanger. It's almost like we forgot about our desperation for vaccines at one - as early as this year. Regardless, much appreciation to the science community for getting this done.

3. Federal Gun Legislation - Another political top news (this week was exhausting), put one on the scoreboard for our society in getting an agreement on gun safety in our country. Is it perfect? No? Address key needs? Somewhat? But, it's the first time in forever, and we'll take it.

Of course, even this good news was nullified with another ruling throwing it all out of wack.

3 Down

1. January 6th Hearings - I've found these hearings to be extremely interesting. Why I've given it the "down" this week is the mere rationale that there is so much evidence regarding a President who lied about so many things regarding the election, and not one fiver of me believes that he (and his constituents) will be held accountable.

That's not me taking political sides, in being objective, it so disappointing from an ethical and integrity compass that is overlooked within our political spheres.

2. Governance of Community Libraries - If this week didn't have some feeling of us "heading back", then the idea of some states trying to govern libraries and specific books definitely does. As a lover of words, this is unbelievable.

3. "Historic Win for White Life" - Ah yes, nothing like shouting out loud at a rally proclaiming a win for white life, and not one person bats a doubt.

2 Controversial

1. Rove vs. Wade - There's nothing else I can say here that hasn't been read, said, thought, or proclaimed - whatever side you are on this. The moment is jarring, and yet again, the 2020s has provided another moment in history.

I'm exhausted...and concerned.

2. New York Gun Law - SCOTUS stayed busy this week repealing a law that was on the books for over 100 years in regards to open carry laws in New York. Now, the change will undoubtedly challenge all gun laws going forward.

Yeah...so much for championing that victory of coming together on gun legislation.

Dome Pondering Move Review: Say You Will (2017)

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
