Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/27/23

3 Up

1. Republican Debate - Sure, I would like to see these debates in another format. However, all in all, I thought this week's Republican Debate was a success. At the very least it was entertaining, but really, I think it gave a platform for the candidates to battle it out and separate themselves - for better or worse.

2. RSV Vaccine - Offering a vaccine for expectant women and new babies from suffering from RSV. -easy win, right?

3. Pro Wrestling - Pro Wrestling is on fire right now, and this weekend produced an insane amount of hours of television and events between multiple companies. An emotional weekend in many ways.

3a. Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt - Pro Wrestling lost some good individuals this week. We said goodbye to legend and hall of famer, Terry Funk, and endured the sudden passing of one of the most creative minds the business has ever seen, in Windham Rotundo, known as Bray Wyatt.

3c - AEW All In - Finally, AEW set a new record for the highest attendance for a paying crowd at 81,035 fans in Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Again, a tremendous week for pro wrestling.

3 Down

1. Trump Indictment - I'm not sure I've fully wrapped my mind around the idea that a former President is enduring things we've never seen before, like being indicted. Then again, it is President Trump. What's crazy is how this has fueled interest in him as a candidate, and how some are willing to look past these charges and yet still in favor of "law and order".

Make it make sense.

1a. Trump Mug Shot - You absolutely knew his mug shot would be a cultural catalyst for his fan base. And yup, it is.

2. Jacksonville Shooting - This story is incredibly sad on so many levels. I think about the victims and their families and what they must endure tonight because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time - and yes, bore the wrong skin color. And then there is the suspect who released a manifesto prior to the attack. We're in a crazy place in America.

3. Rudy Guliani - The former Mayor gets the "down" this week as it's fascinating how he went from "America's Mayor" and Time Person of the Year to well...what he has become.

Dome Pondering Move Review: Say You Will (2017)

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Dome Pondering Movie Review: I Used to Be Funny (2023)

What is it about?  A former stand-up comedian struggles with PTSD as she struggles to reclaim her life and to look for the missing girl she used to nanny.  Who is in it? Rachel Sennott - Sam Cowell  Olga Petsa - Brooke Renner Favorite Scene:  [spoiler alert]  As the plot comes together (going back and forth from present and past PTSD trauma), we see Sam go back to the house she served as a Nanny, tying the film together.  Favorite Quote:  "Are you going to ask me what I was wearing next?" Review:  After finishing I Use to Be Funny, I struggle to place this film in a box. Comedy?? Not sure why it is labeled as that on Netflix...while it has tremendous humor and one liners, a natural as Sam is a comedian, the deeper story arc surrounds deeper tones of sexual assault, parental death, awful parents, and tons of collateral damage by way of a horrific event.  It's complex to say the least, but it doesn't take away from the film. You're invested in...
