Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/22/26

The Sunday Sundown Rundown (formerly in the format of "3 Up and 3 Down") is where I share thoughts on three topics that piqued my interest, along with my favorite photo from the week.

Olympic Hockey Teams

Hockey took the nation by storm this week as both the men's and women's teams brought home gold medals. I echoed last year with the run the United States Men's and Women's basketball teams had, but there really is a unifying front for these teams on the Olympic stage. As divided as we currently are, it's these kinds of moments, these kinds of runs, where we all feel, even for just a few moments, American.

Really cool stuff, and really cool vibes this week.

Congrats to the many other United States athletes who performed on the Winter Games' big stage.

I'm going to miss the odd effects of watching curling...

Laila Edwards

I know we're supposed to live in this society where we're now suppressing race, or various identities, in how we perceive or recognize people, moments, and history.

Even from that lens, today's non-DEI scope, it was difficult for me not to feel the moment Laila Edwards became the first Black woman to win a Gold Medal in hockey. There is so much to unpack there, and really, it causes me to pause on so many fronts.

We're still having these "firsts".

And yet, we're supposed to not acknowledge it.

What hits me more is the impact of so many girls who will see what Laila just accomplished and find hockey as an avenue for them. Just like the Williams sisters did for tennis.

Remarkable stuff. Congratulations to Laila Edwards.

Jesse Jackson

It's amazing that so many of these names, these icons, during a period that was so impactful to the United States of America, are no longer with us.

Jackson, who marched with Dr. King, was a staple for a kid like me who grew up in the 90s. My parents openly discussed Jackson's policies, and I still remember their discussions about his run for President in 1984 and 1988. Hearing those testimonies from those times, I was further able to piece together the moment and appreciate it slightly more in 2008 when President Barack Obama won the White House.

Jackson's career was marked by diplomatic successes and awe-inspiring speeches for change - especially for a younger generation.

These voices are now gone. At least it feels like it. It's hard not to look around at the current landscape of those who will lead us into the next generation, and wonder, will we ever get back to such quality?

RIP Jesse Jackson.

Keep hope alive!

Would You Rather: Questions 121-130

This edition of "Would You Rather" is credited to the NBA Would You Rather NBA Account on Instagram ( See Here ). Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Would you rather have Giannis Antetokounpo with no driving ability or James Harden with no Three-Point shooting ability?  This is definitely a weird and unique one, but I'll take Harden. Giannis without his strength doesn't offer much. However, if Harden's d...

The Pondering 10 - Yankees All-Decade Team for 2010s

I thought I would stay away from the "all-decade" shenanigans, but I got suckered in after all. Around here, end of year rankings, reviews, and reflections rule, so why not compose a list that embodies it all? And why not put together a list around my beloved Yankees? Especially in a decade in which they DID NOT win the World Series. Gasp! With all of that said, please see below not only my list of the Yankees All-Decade Team (because everyone can filter by position), but also by importance and contribution throughout the decade.

Dome Pondering Movie Review: Without Remorse (2021)

What is it about? A Navy SEAL set out to avenge his wife's murder, only to find himself amidst a much larger international conspiracy.  Who is in it? Michael B. Jordan - John Kelly Jodie Turner-Smith - Karen Greer Jamie Bell - Robert Ritter Favorite Scene:  [spoiler alert] After finally confronting Rykov, the team engages in an all-out confrontation with snipers and local police in an attempt to escape alive.  Favorite Quote: "I'll show them what a pawn can do to a king." Review: I finally watched Without Remorse. Because it's an Amazon original film, I may have taken its availability for granted. During a week I had some time off from the World, I finally watched it, and I wasn't disappointed.  For starters, I'm not a huge Tom Clancy aficionado, so my review is coming from a casual. But I do love a good thriller, especially from that of a rogue government official turned independent spy. Long live Jason Bourne.  Without Remorse, should there be a sequel, ...
