3,000 Hits More About The Journey

What is there to say? This was a moment every Yankee fan anticipated and expected for a long time, yet, it still seems like such a shock. 3,000 hits. Wow. And of course, reaching the milestone in classic Derek Jeter style, going 5 for 5, and capturing the historic hit in grand fashion, with a storybook, unexpected, home run to left field.

Yup, amazing. 

As the cliche goes, which has become too common, it is rightfully used again here, "you could not have scripted this any better".  

Yet it's a script that is all too well known by Yankee fans.

A script,that many others can draw similar conclusions to, is parallel to my life.
He is this generation's version of Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio, and Berra.

He is the guy  as a young boy that I saw take over for an injured Tony Fernandez in early 1996, and hoping this touted rookie was not just another Kevin Maas.

He is the guy whose t-shirt-jersey I bought right after the 1996 Championship season and wore it twice a week, uncluding everyday in gym class in the 6th grade.

He is the guy we all pretended to be while performing our version of "The Flip" play in the street.

He is the guy, we wish we all were in High School. Cool. Good looking. And yes, even Miss Universe on the right arm.

He is the guy you went to bat for during the college years. Defending him in many arguments in disbelief that there are those that don't believe in the aura of Derek Jeter. "Overrated?" What?!

He is the guy, as you become a young adult, and you begin to see his numbers and range decline, you realize not that the Yankees need to find a new place to put him in the field or the order, but that he did it all the right way - clean.

He is the guy that year after year seemed to handle himself here in New York City as if pressure were a fictitious creation.

He is the guy, luckily, alongside another favorite in Mariano Rivera, in which I had the distinct pleasure of watching each and every day. 

Quite frankly, over the past 16 years, he is simply, the guy. The Captain. Our Captain.

So on a day where Jeter collected his 3,000th hit, for this Yankee fan, it is not just a sharp reminder of the career of Derek Jeter, but a remembrance of growing up alongside the historic and unbelievable career of Derek Jeter.

As the journey and memories over the past 16 years is the true celebration of this milestone and achievement.

Thoughts on TNA on AMC Debut: "Yup, TNA is back. It is so back."

TNA is back.  And I know that because it is heavily under scrutiny by the internet. But that criticism comes with being back on a major platform like the AMC Network, and of course, taking the next step after a super successful 2025.  So, what did I think?  The show was...ummmm okay, at best. Some of the challenges the company faced heading into this weekend were well documented among the rumor mill, which didn't bode well for the company. In balancing reported visa issues with talent, pivoting after losing core talent to free agency, and attempting to build and manage talent workload with a premium live event on Saturday, TNA found themselves in the usual TNA stuff. The most peculiar - and strangest - of situations to be in going into a big network premiere. This company, man! All in all, again, the show was okay. It had its flaws. It had some cool moments. It didn't live up to the hype (or the expectations we each had for such a premiere). But it's one show. TNA has put...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/27/17

3 Up 1. MLB Players Weekend - The (insane) traditionalists had a problem with it, but the weekend produced plenty of fun games and moments, and gave fans and players a really cool weekend to be themselves and enjoy the game. I have a ton of stuff to share in the next Dope Sports Threads. Overall, can't wait for the next one... 2. MTV VMA's - Look, there were moments I had no idea what was going on, and I thought Katy Perry was incredibly awkward as the host. However, the moments that promoted fights against hate and empowered people to be themselves were awesome. Especially, Pink's speech - such good stuff. The VMA's still have plenty of work to do though under their new management. 3. Giancarlo Stanton - I think he just hit another home run. The guy has 50(!) and we're not into September, yet.
