How Much Before We Are Ashamed?

Here we go again! Just when you thought the news could not indict a failing generation anymore, we get the recent video that has gone viral about the harassment and utter torture a bus monitor in Greece, NY suffered on a particular day. The video, which has become a huge topic of conversation, including over a million hits on YouTube, and has also spurred a website that has raised over $500,000 for the woman, serves as a stark reminder of where we are headed as a culture.

Now, I've already sort of hopped on my soap box about today's society in a recent post (Brown and Drake Fight Exemplifies Lost Generation), but I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge this story.

I'd be a bit of a fraud if I stated that I didn't participate in what has become known as "bullying" today. And let's be honest, you did as well. We all teased one another growing up. We all made fun of someone else's weird physical features. We've all insulted others based upon their inabilities or social standing on the playground. And if you didn't, then more power to you, you are the rare exception, and were just an extroardinary kid.

Kids are cruel. Especially at the Junior High School age. That is what they do. That is how we were wired. Obnoxious before the world of High School slapped us back down, unfortunately, with some rising back up to the same fate.

However, in the midst of that "bullying" there was always a line that wasn't crossed. We all knew the boundaries as it was just internally recognized for each person. And when that line was crossed, you either put up, or shut up. Or at least where I am from. And I would be a liar if I didn't say I had my fair share of ahem, brush ups, from words being exchanged.

However, in today's world, this generation seems to be numb of all those boundaries. Especially odd since our society has more PC rules and dynamics than ever before.

And even more shocking, this generation is incredibly cowardly, as attacks or words are exchanged over texts or some social media platform.

Nonetheless, the younger generation, now smarter than ever, knows there is no defense for any school official who is verbally assaulted non-stop for ten straight minutes as seen in the video. They can't hit you. And even if they respond, somehow, some crazy parents are ready to pull the trigger on a lawsuit.

Today's generation is the only one that can perform such an unbelievable act of telling a teacher whose son committed suicide ten years ago, "your family is dead because they didn't want to be next to you" and would post it on YouTube.

Our problematic and current generation is the only one that has parent's that look at the same video of their kids behavior, and claim that "it's not that bad" and blame the monitor for possibly not taking control of the situation.

This generation has no accountability.

None.

It's never our fault. And if this recent video isn't proof enough, please (please!) read this other recent story

Quite honestly, we are all to blame.

And instead of looking for an escape, or in today's "Reality" TV world,  fame and  fortune, out of every terrible deed in life, we should simply be ashamed of ourselves.

Would You Rather: Questions 121-130

Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Would you rather have Giannis Antetokounpo with no driving ability or James Harden with no Three-Point shooting ability?  This is definitely a weird and unique one, but I'll take Harden. Giannis without his strength doesn't offer much. However, if Harden's d...

"You can give  everything to something, and no matter what, it is always gonna do what it's gonna do." I feel that these days. I get it.

The Pondering 10: 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend

Contrary to the discourse that always surrounds the NBA All-Star Weekend, I genuinely enjoyed the weekend, and even more so, the All-Star Game. No, for real. All love here.  Although the Dunk Contest really is on its last legs. That was tough to watch.  Nonetheless, I'm keeping it all good vibes on this one as a fan. JB vs. KAT Moment Big Knicks homer moment here. If you frequent these parts, you already know that. Watching the Captain go at KAT brought a moment of joy for all of us in Knicks fandom. Neither one came away with anything. I'm just glad they're in perfect health as we head toward the second half of the season with the Playoffs looming.  9.
