Bracing For 2013...and Half of 2014

Happy New Year DP devotees! And what better way to kick off the new year than by making an announcement? How about a declaration of improvement in the spirit of resolutions and making goals for 2013. Yours truly has bitten the bullet and has gotten braces once again.

I know, not the major announcement you were looking forward to.

However, after years of my teeth taking it upon themselves to head in any direction it pleases, completely disregarding the two years of prior treatment I had as a teenager to put them where they were, I made an appointment with an orthodontist, and boom, here I am kicking off the new year going through this process again.

I've said it many times, braces were the the worst pain I ever felt in my life. Worse than broken bones, torn ligaments, sprains, and even knee pain. Nothing will ever compare to that pain of having metal braces placed on your teeth for the first time. The sensitivity. The headaches. The uncomfortableness. The inconvenience. And yes, the insecurity of your appearance.

So yes, as a sixteen year old teenager, these were all things I had to deal with. However, as a twenty-seven year old man, the thought of braces not only brought flashes of all of those things, but the sheer weirdness of being an adult with braces.

Invisalign, saving adults with crooked teeth worldwide

However, lo and behold, for those of you in this position, I've learned in my consultation appointment how much braces have improved over the years. And believe me, I fired dozens of questions at my doctor. Part of me was relieved, and part of me was furious at many of the improvements in orthodontics. Is there anything kids today have to suffer through?

Nonetheless, as the new year hits, I have already been wearing Invisalign trays for two weeks. While clear, and barely noticeable, if at all, the lifestyle is already one that I am adjusting too having to remove the trays every time I eat, and being forced to pay more attention to the overall hygiene of my teeth. Not that I didn't before, but I'm at the point now where I brush my teeth after snacking.

As we all make changes to better ourselves, this is oddly one that I've made to improve myself. A change that will continue through 2013 and half of 2014. A change in which I will be twenty-nine when completed.

Scary. Very scary.

Nonetheless, so goes the process of life, and the cycle that it brings.

Round two with braces. Let's go.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/11/19

3 Up 1. Eva Ramon Gallegos Cure HPV - Could Cervical Cancer be a thing of the past? It very much looks like it as after twenty years of work, Gallegos has found a cure that completely eliminates the cancer. This is remarkable work, and it's pretty awesome to see the Mexican Medical community come together proudly in this achievement. 2. "This is America" Grammy - Finally!! Childish Gambino got some national love for the work he did on this great song, and even more so, on the overall art/video that was "This is America". Of course, he wasn't there to pick it up as the Grammys and their long standing issue with the hip-hop community continues... 3. Women at SOTU - Women continue to be bad ass in the current age. Their solidarity within the Capitol for the President's SOTU was a great sight to see. 3 Down 1. Venezuela Crisis - The country of Venezuela is in absolute shambles right now as they tussle over leadership, and really, a move toward d...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/27/17

3 Up 1. MLB Players Weekend - The (insane) traditionalists had a problem with it, but the weekend produced plenty of fun games and moments, and gave fans and players a really cool weekend to be themselves and enjoy the game. I have a ton of stuff to share in the next Dope Sports Threads. Overall, can't wait for the next one... 2. MTV VMA's - Look, there were moments I had no idea what was going on, and I thought Katy Perry was incredibly awkward as the host. However, the moments that promoted fights against hate and empowered people to be themselves were awesome. Especially, Pink's speech - such good stuff. The VMA's still have plenty of work to do though under their new management. 3. Giancarlo Stanton - I think he just hit another home run. The guy has 50(!) and we're not into September, yet. Can he hit 63? Should be interesting going forward if he can stay hot.  3 Down 1. Hurricane Harvey - The devastation and flooding going on in South Texas...

Dome Pondering Movie Review: In a Relationship (2018)

What is it about?  Following the progression of two couples over the course of a summer.  Who is in it? Emma Roberts - Hallie Michael Ambrano - Owen Dree Hemingway - Willa Patrick Gibson - Matt Favorite Scene:  [Spoiler Alert] Matt and Villa sit on the stairs, and he admits to not wanting to introduce Willa to his parents.  Favorite Quote:  I don't... I don't think you ever find someone... you don't resent. And that's part of it. It's just... find the person you *want* to resent, you know. Review:  This was a weird film. The opener had much promise, but as the film continued, it felt like it was just getting longer.  My biggest gripe with the film is that I liked each of the characters less as I got to know them. I understand that the film attempted to highlight the modern relationship for a specific generation, and in certain ways, it succeeded in doing so. However, the characters never grew or became better people from their relationships...they just...
