Viva Las Vegas (Again!) - Part 1


It's been about five years since I have been in Las Vegas. In my first visit, it was my first business trip of any kind, and an especially big one as it was for an event I had been working on for months. See, before there was college athletics, recreation, and student life, before there was my crazy experience in parks and recreation, there was my career in coordinating and developing national finance conferences. 

My trip to Las Vegas was for a conference I helped coordinate - the Native American Finance Conference. Attended by over 3,000 people, I ended up staying in Vegas for eight days working fourteen hour days. Not fun. While I did walk the strip and get a chance to experience Vegas a bit, my exploring of it was rather limited due to fatigue.

Now, in a position I've always wanted, I'm back in Vegas for the NIRSA conference (finally on the other end of an event for a change), with an opportunity to not only learn a ton from peers and professionals that are constantly revolutionizing the industry, but a chance to maybe even see what all the hype is about Las Vegas.

It marks quite the full-circle irony for me as I am returning to a place that not only conflicts with most of the moral and ethical values I hold, but also feels as some-type of weird return that validates this new endeavor in my professional career. 

From working in a job I hated, yet, really taught me some tough lessons as a person and as a professional, to now returning back to Vegas in a dream position looking to learn and improve from some of the best, it has been quite the book end trips to this city.

I'm not sure why the good Lord has made this city (of all places) a milestone city for me, and I'm sure he finds it humorous, but I intend to make the most of my second go-around with Las Vegas.

For starters, I still find myself amazed with the idea that this city is in the middle of a nowhere-desert, with large, majestic mountains on the perimeter.

And I still find this city to be overly perplexing in theory.

Nonetheless, Vegas, oddly enough, has this unusual, distinguishable place in my heart.

I look forward to what awaits me on my three days here.

Would You Rather: Questions 121-130

This edition of "Would You Rather" is credited to the NBA Would You Rather NBA Account on Instagram ( See Here ). Adding to the fun, this edition (and possibly future ones) are all NBA basketball questions.  121. Who would you rather have on your favorite NBA team - Giannis Antetokounpo or James Harden?  Seeing how I'm a lifelong suffering Knicks fan, the thought of any of these guys in blue and orange is hard to believe. With that said, I'm taking the Greek Freak for this reason - I enjoy watching him play a bit more. Nothing against Harden who is amazing as well, but at times, the ball sticks and that isn't always fun. Plus, I feel like we haven't yet seen a finished Giannis. 122. Yankees Postseason 2026, ALDS vs. Rays

This is easily the most anticipated series (and most expected?) for the New York Yankees. The two best teams during the regular season were expected to clash to determine American League prominence.  And yes, I agree that this upcoming series says a lot about the broken playoff structure in MLB. Allow me to step onto my soapbox for a mere moment... Up we go... I've never been a fan of the expansion to six teams per league. I understand that it keeps more markets in the playoff picture come September, and it is more revenue for all (likely, the biggest reason for the expansion). Still, all it did was create a scenario where division winners were at a disadvantage, and what we're getting here is the two best teams in the league facing off in a five-game series.  Ultimately, the Tampa Bay Rays, the top seed in the American League, are given the second-best record in their first-round, in a best-of-five?  None of this makes sense.  Stepping off now... TNA Bound For Glory 2026 Review: "They say it's the biggest, so I guess it must be so, Right?"

It's the biggest TNA show of the year!  Or so they say. I've been fighting that moniker for years (hello: Slammiversary), but you know what, I think we're too far in. They say it's the biggest show, so I guess it must be so, right? That said, if this is the biggest show of the year, like Slammiversary, I definitely didn't "feel" the anticipation or aura around Bound For Glory. So many of the storylines and matches leading into this event felt rushed, or at best, incomplete. It's been a trend all year, honestly. And it's an interesting one considering the deletion (deletionnnnnnn - ahhhh!) of the TNA-plus specials.  We can push aside the Order 4 drama, as that has been the best thing going for TNA all year. That felt like the biggest match going into this event, and rightfully so.  Everything else felt like there just could have been more.  Ah well...
