Viva Las Vegas (Again!) - Part 3

This was the last day of conference fun here for yours truly in Las Vegas, and while it is a rather chilly and windy day here, that is not the reason I am ready to head home. I just am. I’m Vegas’ed out. On my first trip here, I spent seven days working. I wanted to run out of Vegas. This week, after spending three days of networking, learning, walking, sharing, speaking, walking, exploring, eating, and oh yeah, walking - I’m tired.  Actually, exhausted. I’m very much ready for my feet to touch down in Brooklyn, NY.

However, before leaving Vegas, the last day of this conference really opened some new opportunities and lines of communications professionally. I met with various recreation directors in our conference (UAA) and made many connections that also should help me in the coming months of my collegiate professional development.

Viva Las Vegas (Again!) - Part 2

In more of a highlight, I had the opportunity to have dinner with some folks from Texas, who treated my supervisor and I to dinner at the Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse in the hotel, Paris. The guys, high ranking officials in the turf business, fellow collegiate rec professionals, and a sports architect exec who paid for the meal, and were great hosts, and a great time.

The meal really brought the whole trip full circle as I was able to really kick back with some reps from Texas over dinner, while enjoying possibly the most expensive meal I've ever indulged in – EVER. We’re talking a meal that topped $800 for the six of us, and one in which the sports architect repeatedly reminded us to order whatever we wanted on the menu.

VERY generous of him.

But it reminded me off my learnings from Day 2, that this city is built on excess.

After returning back to my hotel, in which I walked through the casino level which had dancing women on mounted rises, I knew I had just about enough of Las Vegas.

For a simple, Christian-based guy like myself, Las Vegas is about as far away from a personal in-demand destination spot. As I sit in my hotel room overlooking the strip full of drunkards, druggies, prostitutes, and bright lights, I’m weary from the three days, but most of all so over the mirage (no pun intended) that is Las Vegas.

With all of that said, it’s been a nice return to Las Vegas for yours truly. It was a learning experience in so many ways. Of them all, it continued to reveal to me more intricacies about life, and the constant revealing of the evil in our world.

Not exactly what most take away from Las Vegas. However, I’m not a Vegas kind of guy.

They say whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

I plan on taking back many life lessons – professionally and personally.

As for what the city has to offer, I’ll gladly leave it all here in Vegas.

I miss Brooklyn, and I can’t wait to head back to her tomorrow.

3 Up 1. Eva Ramon Gallegos Cure HPV - Could Cervical Cancer be a thing of the past? It very much looks like it as after twenty years of work, Gallegos has found a cure that completely eliminates the cancer. This is remarkable work, and it's pretty awesome to see the Mexican Medical community come together proudly in this achievement. 2. "This is America" Grammy - Finally!! Childish Gambino got some national love for the work he did on this great song, and even more so, on the overall art/video that was "This is America". Of course, he wasn't there to pick it up as the Grammys and their long standing issue with the hip-hop community continues... 3. Women at SOTU - Women continue to be bad ass in the current age. Their solidarity within the Capitol for the President's SOTU was a great sight to see. 3 Down 1. Venezuela Crisis - The country of Venezuela is in absolute shambles right now as they tussle over leadership, and really, a move toward d...

Dear Son, Uniquely Two!

--- 2 Years Old --- Dear Son,  Happy Birthday! I have to get used to you sharing a birthday with Jesus - that's still no easy thing to do.  However, you're now two years old! And while I write this, you haven't really been able to celebrate, more so your birthday. At a mere two years old, you're rife with germs and succumbed to a nasty bug, rendering you sick on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day (your birthday), and the days to follow. Everyone here for the holidays was unable to give you that moment, and really, we weren't able to get that moment on your second birthday.  The day aside, I'm grateful for the little guy that you are. In one of my previous notes to you, I mentioned " That's Milo " and you've continued to express that. You're very unique - a character in every way. The complete opposite, thus far, of your brother in so many ways.  Even with your limited speech as a toddler, I love how decisive you are - with your "Yesshhhs...

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/9/25

3 Up 1. Eagles Defensive Live - I'm no football aficionado or even a huge fan - but what the Eagles front four on defense did was dominating.  1a. Philadelphia Eagles - Congratulations to Eagles fans and the city of Philadelphia on the Super Bowl win.  2. Kendrick Lamar - I'm sure it'll be controversial - we all knew it would be going in. Throwing my two cents into the arena of public opinion, I thoroughly enjoyed Kendrick's performance. I'm a fan, so that's easy. Tough night to be Drake though. Yikes!  3. Human-Like Teeth in Pigs - Science can be cool. But stories like this are absolutely amazing.  3 Down 1. Plan for Education? - Look, I'm all for cutting wasteful spending from the government. However, I also want to know the plan to replace or support the areas that are being cut. Eliminating the Department of Education? Ok, cool. What's the plan after that? 2. USAID - We live in a VERY blessed country. My heart is with the countries and people who re...
