Dome Pondering Movie Review: The Kings of Summer (2013)

What is it about? 

Two friends and an odd acquaintance run away from home and their annoying parents. They end up building a house in the middle of the woods and live off the land for one week during summer vacation. 

Who is in it? 

Nick Robinson - Joe

Gabriel Basso - Patrick

Moises Arias - Biaggio

Nick Offerman - Frank


Favorite Scene:

While living in the woods, Patrick comes out of the house one morning to find Biaggio attempting to camouflage with the surroundings by hugging a tree. After Patrick pulls him off to try to talk to him, Biaggio responds, "I don't know where Biaggio is" and slowly hugs the tree again. 

Favorite Quote: 

Joe: Vicki's making eyes at you man. Go talk to her. She's so into it.
Biaggio: There's no point in me talking to her anyways.
Joe: Why not?
Biaggio: Joe, I'm gay.
Joe: Are you sure?
Biaggio: Yes, my lungs fill up every time the seasons change.
Joe: That's not being gay, Biaggio.
Biaggio: What?
Joe: Pretty sure that's Cystic Fibrosis.
Biaggio: Oh.

Review:

The Kings of Summer is such an interesting movie. It's your typical adolescent high school film of young adults coming into their own over summer break. And while that is very true, what makes this film different is the humor that is built into it. It's the kind of humor that isn't forced, but if you share that witty, dry style-type of humor which Nick Offerman often finds himself attached to, TKoS should be on your list. 

Again, the plot isn't a strong one, but the characters are funny enough and deep enough to carry the film through. Personally, the character of Biaggio stole the film as everything he said and did was out right hilarious. 

All in all, it's a good film if you catch the humor involved.

Thoughts on TNA on AMC Debut: "Yup, TNA is back. It is so back."

TNA is back.  And I know that because it is heavily under scrutiny by the internet. But that criticism comes with being back on a major platform like the AMC Network, and of course, taking the next step after a super successful 2025.  So, what did I think?  The show was...ummmm okay, at best. Some of the challenges the company faced heading into this weekend were well documented among the rumor mill, which didn't bode well for the company. In balancing reported visa issues with talent, pivoting after losing core talent to free agency, and attempting to build and manage talent workload with a premium live event on Saturday, TNA found themselves in the usual TNA stuff. The most peculiar - and strangest - of situations to be in going into a big network premiere. This company, man! All in all, again, the show was okay. It had its flaws. It had some cool moments. Dome Pondering Movie Review: In a Relationship (2018)

What is it about?  Following the progression of two couples over the course of a summer.  Who is in it? Emma Roberts - Hallie Michael Ambrano - Owen Dree Hemingway - Willa Patrick Gibson - Matt Favorite Scene:  [Spoiler Alert] Matt and Villa sit on the stairs, and he admits to not wanting to introduce Willa to his parents.  Favorite Quote:  I don't... I don't think you ever find someone... you don't resent. And that's part of it. It's just... find the person you *want* to resent, you know. Review:  This was a weird film.
