Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/17/14

3 Up

1. Mo'Ne Davis & Pierce Jones - These two little leaguers have been tremendously awesome this week. From Davis, who not only is first black female to pitch in the Little League World Series, but threw a 6 inning, 8 K shutout,  to Pierce Jones who produced the impressive stat of 4-4, 3HR, 1 Triple, 14 Total Bases, and only saw 9 pitches in all four at bats. Both have become household names at only 13. Rock on!

2 .Protesters - Kudos to those who have traveled to Ferguson, Missouri and have done so by protesting peacefully. So many sit at home and complain, but many decided to take action, and did so in a productive way.

3. ALS Awareness - The social media craze has been what you expect from social media fads - some people just doing it to be seen. But if you can get around that, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has done wonders for raising money and awareness for ALS. Kudos to those who participated and donated.

3 Down

1. Ferguson Rioters - Let's just be VERY honest - You guys are morons. Go ahead, destroy your community. Yup, that's going to make changes. Idiots.

2. SWAT Team Decision - I discussed this early in my thoughts on the Ferguson/Mike Brown Situation - Who thouht bringing in the SWAT team would bring a sense of peace. SWAT teams are synonymous with last resort and violence. Answering violence with violence was just a bad idea. Terrible idea.

3. Robin William's Death - I'll be honest, it's hard for me to truly feel for those who take their own life. However, Williams seemed to have touched tons of people through his life, his charity, and his work. He'll definitely be missed.

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
