Dome Pondering Movie Review: A Country Called Home (2015)


What is it about? 

A young girl learns of her fathers death and returns home where her stay helps her put to rest things in her past to help her move forward. 

Who is in it? 

Imogen Poots - Ellie

Mackenzie Davis - Reno 

Mary McCormack - Amanda

Favorite Scene: 

Ellie and Jack share their stories, and realize that the other is what could have been - dependent on them leaving town. 

Favorite Quote: 

"I just want to hang around until things slow down just a little bit" 

Review: 

A Country Called Home is an interesting film with some deep rooted situations that aren't easy to dissect. Unfortunately, the film takes those situations and offers cheap solutions to them, completely undercutting what could have been a great film. 

The screenplay dives into various issues that are complicated, especially when you meet and get a feel for the characters and how they are intertwined. Like family, everything isn't always clear. However, the film really doesn't go to the next level, and really, doesn't give us more from these chacaracters when the film really needed it. This is seen especially in the third portion of the film where it takes this weird comedic route. 

The acting however, is indeed solid. My introduction to both Imogen Poots and Mackenzie Davis were good ones, and I do look forward to more work from them. 

Overall, this film was...eh. Take a look if you want to kill some time.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 6/21/26

The Sunday Sundown Rundown (formerly in the format of "3 Up and 3 Down") is where I share thoughts on three topics that piqued my interest, along with my favorite photo from the week. Knicks Parade  I'm sure you can tell from the recent posts on this here site, I am still in the Knicks Championship thought.  NBA Champs, babbyyyyyyyyyyyy!! Nonetheless, the parade was everything any Knicks fan (new, old, and long-time suffering) could have imagined. Memorable scenes. Emotional. Knicks Postseason 2026, Conference Finals vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

It feels like forever since we've played.  But we've got our opponent, and it's go time!  Review Thoughts from Round 1 Review Thoughts from Round 2 Like every other Knick fan, I too hoped for a seven-game series between the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and that's what we got. The long series added time for our squad to rest up (get healthy, OG!) and more time to scout exactly what we'll have to deal with in the Eastern Conference Finals.  We've been here before, and a trip to the NBA Finals once again feels all too close. All too real!  The Cavaliers present some interesting dynamics with their electric backcourt and the size up front with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. There are also two players on the roster, Dennis Schroder and Max Strus, who often find ways to stick it to the Knicks.
