Sunday Sundown Rundown - 5/14/18

3 Up

1. Mother's Day - Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms and women out there that do so much. Oddly, next year's Mother's Day shall be a bit more personal.

2. James Paxton - ANOTHER no-no in the young MLB season. Paxton, a promising lefty for the Mariners put it all together a dominant effort shutting down the Blue Jays offense.

3. Avengers: Infinity War - Of course, I haven't seen it yet, but kudos to those involved with the film as it is now one of the Top 5 grossing movies of all-time. I got to work with Disney this past semester in promoting the film, so I feel a bit connected. Though, I haven't seen any of the preceding films. I have some time this summer...

3 Down

1. White People Calling Cops - It amazes me the number of stories in the news, or those that simply went viral, of white people calling the cops on black people for well, doing absolutely nothing. Do a simple Google search this week and take a look at some of those stories. It's quite amazing.

2. Betsy DeVos - This lady. Ugh, SMH. Yes, I'm not a fan. And really, what person who works in education is? Quite frankly, there are avid Trump supporters I know who don't understand why she's in this role. But you know what, this week we get the awesome story that she has filled top positions in her department with many under investigation. I can't...

3. Raquel Pennington Corner - When you tell your corner that you quit, especially after it's clear you're getting your ass handed to you, your corner should have your back. Not send you back out there to well...you your ass handed to you even more, this time in an embarrassing way. Shame on Pennington's corner team at UFC 224. That's just a bad job.

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
