Sunday Sundown Rundown - 6/18/23

3 Up

1. Father's Day - Sending good vibes and wishes to many fathers who do so much and sacrifice so much for their children, and others. Let's also celebrate the legacies of those who did and are no longer with us.

2. Illinois Prohibits Book Ban - I thought this was so cool. I'm outright against banning books. I find the whole entire deal to be ridiculous considering the books that are being targeted. There is an element of education we are losing in our country. Just my take. Good for Illinois.

3. Food Delivery Minimum Wage - This was a small story that grew on me in ponder. The topic of salary and wage discussion is a much layered one for a response of a few simple sentences here. However, if you know or have seen any of these food delivery workers, you know how insanely valuable they are to NYC. They are worth the $17+ per hour bill that was just passed. Some might say they risk their lives the way they bike in NYC traffic. I'm for it.

3 Down

1. I95 Highway Collapse - This was scary and a complete referendum on some of the work needed on our infrastructure around the country. I'm just glad everyone is okay.

2. Armed Rebels in Uganda - It's unfortunate news like this rarely makes in into our mainstream media the way it does internationally. An ISIL-linked armed group rushed a Ugandan school and massacred 42 people. So sad.

3. Ja Morant - Morant will get 25 games for his actions. The suspension will likely cost the superstar about $50 Million. More importantly, it raises a small discussion that will surely bubble to the surface as the NBA becomes dominated by international players - are our athletes prepared for this stage? Are we failing them?

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
