2012 All-Star DP Clash - 3rd Round (All Brackets)

We are now down to the final eight in the entire DP Clash bracket. As we head into the third round, the remaining participants will now be judged on seven criteria which will serve as a best of seven in each clash. The seven criteria are: 1. Appearance; 2. Physical Ability; 3. Talents; 4. Flexibility; 5. Humor; 6. Dinner test (Who is worthy of having dinner with); and if we are still tied and in need of a 7th and deciding criteria, 7. longevity. With that said, let's jump into the third round and see who will win their bracket and head to the DP Final Four.

Here is an update on the current All-Star DP Clash bracket:

#2 Jay-Z vs. #1 Batman

#1 Batman vs. #2 Jay-Z

1. Appearance - As much as Jay-Z believes he is fashion forward, he really isn't. However, what he will get credit for his effectively doing something - anything - and having others all over the world follow. "All black everything", anyone? With that said, Batman is coolness personified and the Bat costume is sick. Even when he is simply Bruce Wayne he is always dressed to the nines. (Batman 1-0)

2. Physical Ability - I'm not sure what Jay-z can do. Urban legend has it that he tied Michael Jordan in a game of billiards. Impressive. On the other hand, Batman pretty much defends the city of Gotham. (Batman 2-0)

3. Talents - Jay-Z's chance to make this a series has come as he is as talented as they come. Jay-Z, widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all-time, is also known for his impressive talent of never writing any of his lyrics and being able to step inside of a studio and record an album in one visit. Batman has the art of self-defense, but an argument can be made that he receives the help of impressive protective gear and gadgets to get his job done. (Batman 2-1)

4. Flexibility - Batman's flexibility extends as far as being able to defend himself in any situation, and being able to operate several forms of transportation. Jay-Z is not just a rapper, but a business mogul with other ventures that include clothing, sneakers, a music label, clubs, and professional basketball. (Tied 2-2)

5. Humor - Jay-Z can be somewhat entertaining in interviews and when he's insulting rival rappers in the years past, but Batman's sarcasm is the stuff action and super hero movies is made of. (Batman 3-2)

6. Dinner Test - Batman is cool, but how boring must he be to hang with? Bruce Wayne throws fancy dinner parties, but he's always on call. That Bat signal can show up at anytime! Plus, who wouldn't want to have dinner and hang with Jay-Z? Talk rap, life, basketball, politics, etc... (Tied 3-3)

7. Longevity - Whose brand will last longer? As much as Jay-Z has built a mini-empire and an impressive legacy, the legend of Batman precedes the Brooklyn legend, and will most likely continue on well past him through comics, movies, and for all the nerds and geeks out there to forever worship. (Batman 4-3)

MSG Bracket Champion: #1 Batman

To Infinity and Beyond Bracket

#1 Jason Bourne vs. #2 Tim Tebow

#1 Jason Bourne vs. #2 Tim Tebow

1. Appearance - Well, Bourne is a former government agent that pretty much doesn't care what he looks like, which sort of adds to his aura and overall cool appearance. It just can't be explained. However, Tebow has the super cool face mask and is incredibly jacked. In the interest of asking myself who would I want to walk the streets looking like, I think I'd take the muscular physique of Tebow. (Tebow 1-0)

2. Physical Ability - With Tebow, the on-the-field areas have always been questionable. I'm sure Tebow can bench press a ton, probably squat a building, and has dead-lifted a car or two at a time in his life, however, Jason Bourne is pretty much ahead of the rest of the world in just about everything and cannot be caught. This one is easy. (Tied 1-1)

3. Talents - Regardless if he is an awesome guy, we still question whether Tebow can last in the NFL. No need to get into Bourne's talents here. (Bourne 2-1)

4. Flexibility - Tebow can run and block. Once again, we are not sure what Tebow is exactly. Bourne knows several languages, is aware of his location all over the world, can escape all forms of government, is tech savvy, and is a trained assassin and killer. Yeah, he is pretty flexible. (Bourne 3-1)

5. Humor - As easy as Bourne won the "talents" criteria, is as easy as Tebow wins this one. Tebow is funny, and is able to make fun of himself to keep things light. I'm not sure if Bourne has ever been funny, or has even tried to. He's too busy staying ahead of everyone. (Bourne 3-2)

6. Dinner Test - Another easy one. Bourne might be super cool, but having dinner with him just sounds super boring in every way possible. Whether I think about it, write it down, or even say it, it processes, reads, and sounds the same way, B-O-R-I-N-G. Tebow would make for a fascinating dinner. (Tied 3-3)

7. Longevitiy - Another Clash that goes seven, and another series that will favor the veteran. Bourne is part of a franchise that is several books deep, and is now a movie franchise moving on to it's fourth installment. I'm not sure anyone knows whether Tebow lasts in the NFL past this year. (Bourne 4-3)

To Infinity and Beyond Bracket Champion: #1 Jason Bourne

Hollywood Bracket

#4 Manning vs. #7 Cooper

#4 Peyton Manning vs. #7 Dr. Sheldon Cooper

1. Appearance - Have you seen what Sheldon Cooper wears? And now let's compare that to the always sharply dressed Manning? If you are not aware, simply Google the two. Easy decision here. (Manning 1-0)

2. Physical Ability - One of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time compared to Cooper who cannot drive? Another easy one. (Manning 2-0)

3. Talents - Manning's best talent is throwing a football accurately, precisely and with force. Cooper's is his intelligence and knowledge as a superb physicist. We always believe great quarterbacks come around sparingly, however, physicists, especially ones that received their college degree at 16 are even rarer. (Manning 2-1)

4. Flexibility - Cooper doesn't do change. C'mon, the guy has a "spot" in the living room?! On the other hand, Manning does football, pretty much coaches, and oh yeah, his commercials are pretty darn good. (Manning 3-1)

5. Humor - While Manning's commercials are always entertaining for those distinct thirty seconds, Cooper and the rest of his gang on The Big Bang Theory are insanely hilarious. Bazinga! (Manning 3-2)

6. Dinner Test - As funny as Dr. Sheldon Cooper is, watching his personality from afar is hilarious, but enjoying it over dinner would make for sheer and utter annoyance. And as for Manning, well he fits the bill of an athlete you would want to have dinner with. (Manning 4-2)

Hollywood Bracket Champion: #4 Peyton Manning

Star World Bracket

#2 Super Mario vs. #8 Steven Seagal

#2 Super Mario vs. #8 Steven Seagal

1. Appearance - While Seagal's hair always seems to be in a battle with humidity (see above pic), he always has pretty interesting attires in his movies which fit is always-calm, always-cool demeanor. As for Mario, who wants to look like a plumber? The guy is a walking fashion hazard with all of that red along with his cheesy overalls. (Seagal 1-0)

2. Physical Ability - Well, if you take away the help from Yoshii, a sparkling star, and that amazing feather icon that suddenly helps him to fly, Mario's talents rest in having hops even Michael Jordan would be jealous of, and an incredibly hard head that can break bricks. Bricks! What can Seagal do? Well, he can beat up seventy-five people who have nuclear weapons all at once. Not to mention, the guy is versed in several forms of martial arts. This is close, but I'm going to have to go with the guy we'd all want having our back in a fight. (Seagal 2-0)

3. Talents - What exactly is Steven Seagal's talent? If you say acting, you need serious help. (Seagal 2-1)

4. Flexibility - Mario adapts to so many different levels and boards of competition, not to mention his foray into tennis, golf, go-kart racing and others. Seagal plays the same role in all of his movies, period. (Mario 2-2)

5. Humor - Sorry gaming fans, Mario brings joy to us all with his entertainment and even some humor, but nothing - NOTHING - compares to the humor you receive from watching a Seagal flick. (Seagal 3-2)

6. Dinner Test - Quite honestly, I'm not sure if dinner with either one of them sounds appealing. Ugh! Yet, since I'm not sure I've ever heard Mario speak (other than this terrible movie made in his honor), I'll have to go with Seagal. Imagine that, dinner with Steven Seagal?! (Seagal 4-2)

Exorcising Demons with a Breen "Double Bang!"

These sorts of moments feel like they don't happen to us.  Well, they happen VERY rarely - I'm talking Larry Johnson's 4-point play-rare. Yeah, it's been THAT long.  But watching this New York Knicks team score eight points in less than thirty-five seconds, including a sequence that will forever live in my fandom, sits right with that LJ garden-rocking shot.  I sat on my couch in absolute shock at what I just saw.  "How the hell did they just win that game?!"  It's the kind of moment this fanbase deserves. It's the moment that releases and exorcises some demons that haunt us from the trauma of experiences.  Namely you, Reggie Miller.  I loved it. And the icing on the cake was Mike Breen - Oh, Mike Breen, the loveable man with the most epic voice that has narrated so much of my basketball-loving fandom - with not one, but two signature "Bang!" calls.  I'll never let this one down. Ever.  I'm not sure where this team will wrap up the se

3 Up 1. DiVincenzo Shot - Yeah, I'm biased. And you know what, I don't care. This moment brought me so many jobs this week, and it still is. "Bang! Bang!"  2. Caitlin Clark Effect - Well, here we go. So many of the WNBA teams have begun moving their games against the Indiana Fever to larger arenas. The upcoming WNBA season is going to be so incredibly interesting. 3. Candace Parker - Rounding out a hoops-heavy "Up" this week is the retirement of Candace Parker. Yes, she drives the Knicks fanbase bonkers, but Parker is one of the greatest to ever lace them up. It's a shame she had to retire due to injury, but nonetheless, she should be proud. I personally will remember the 2021 WNBA Finals where she led her hometown Chicago Sky over the star-studded Phoenix Mercury.  3 Down 1. Campus Protests - I've witnessed them personally at NYU. And we are set to see these protests continue, and likely grow, on campuses over the next few weeks. We are likely to s

3 Up 1. Gun Control? - Wow. We have somewhat new gun legislation - so it is possible?! Of course, I'm being a bit cheeky in regards to the recent new plan to offer background checks for gun purchases, which really is a big part of the gun control debate. No?  2. Solar Eclipse - I didn't get a chance to experience it, but the idea of it is rather cool. Our world - and universe - is a remarkable experience and thought.  3. Women's Basketball Ratings - The boost continues as women's hoops continue its surge in ratings, interest, and overall star power. It will likely continue next week with the WNBA Draft.  3 Down  1. Iran Missiles on Israel - The entire saga in Gaza continues to get more complex. Throwing Iran into the mix, and now the US intercepting drones and missiles, the entire thing is super sad as innocent people continue to be killed.  2. Tennessee Teachers Carry - Well, just when we thought the gun debate was moving toward a reasonable decision, we get the sta
