Going into July 4th, a day that is meant to celebrate our nation, or at the very least, help us reflect on our relationship to and with it, we get the inevitable passing of the "Big Beautiful Bill Act".
Everyone has thoughts. Many have strong feelings. Few seem to be in favor of the bill.
But here we are.
Just a few quick thoughts and ponderings on the latest big move under the President Trump administration:
- There doesn't seem to be much feedback out there that champions this bill. I know we're very divided, and those who align themselves unconditionally with the President will find a way, but the few experts in economics (and many Republicans themselves) aren't crazy about it. That in itself gives me angst.
- Weren't we JUST exercising massive cuts, layoffs, and decisions to balance Federal spending?
- Now we're adding to it?
- More tax breaks for the rich continue to be a current trend that...well, doesn't feel like it works.
- 200K-550K household income earners will see about an additional $725 come in, at the expense of many public programs that our country (economic system) relies on. I'm unsure how that helps...or is worth it. But eh, whatevs.
- Do we even explain how this "trickles down" anymore? Or do we just take it at its word?
- I'm amazed at how many people vote (or actively support) against their own interests in favor of political identity.
- Watching senators vote "Yes" and then return home in forums and town halls to dodge and weave their way around their vote, with some admitting they hadn't read the bill, explains so much about where we are...
- Some said they didn't READ THE BILL?
- I'm close to the resignation that a significant portion of politicians don't care about the public's interests. I know all aren't terrible (on both sides), but it just feels that way.
- This bill further guts public education and strengthens privatized education, including tax-free donations for those donating to private schools. Does anyone want to wake up to the current war on education in our nation??
- Speaking of - the cost of higher education is about to soar (if it hasn't already).
- Accessible (and affordable) healthcare feels like too much to ask in this nation.
- Healthcare workers and overall care in rural areas are facing some tough times ahead.
- Even with all of the cuts (some of the bill doesn't sound terrible), I fully anticipate local and state taxes to increase, offsetting any of the federal "breaks".
- Even from a political perspective, I don't understand this bill. It polled terribly, and literally moves into what Dems continually say about the GOP - they will raise your taxes to help the rich. Welp!
- We need a new political party...or two...or three.
- I am VERY concerned about the future of my children.
Overall, it's a no from me, dawg. I'm not about this bill.
