Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/28/21

3 Up 1. NEW Coronavirus Vaccine - Johnson & Johnson is now added to the mix as the vaccination effort to get out this awfulness that is COVID continues. Of course, the new approval adds another option to get us closer to a new kind of normalcy much faster, but also adds a new dynamic in being a one-shot vaccination.  2. Renee Montgomery - Imagine being a retired professional at the age of 34 with a Hall of Fame resume and now being a part-owner in a professional basketball franchise. That's the case for Renee Montgomery who joined a group that purchased The Dream this week. It's an amazing story and one that furthers the narrative of the changing leadership landscape in pro sports.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/21/21

3 Up 1. NASA Moon Rover - NASA sent a rover to the moon to scope out Mars - you know, no big deal. But seriously, some of the images and information now coming from the rover's touch down have been super interesting and intriguing. There is even slight evidence that the planet has been habitable! That's just crazy to think about. Awesome stuff.  2. Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic - Watching Osaka take down Serena brought about all sorts of emotions and thoughts this week. Osaka went on to defeat Jennifer Brady in straight sets to win the Australian Open. It's safe to say Osaka has a future that very well includes being the next generational face of tennis.  As for Novak Djokovic, the dude once again walked away with an Australian Open title - his ninth.  3. San Diego Padres - I absolutely applauded the Padres for doing what they are doing. Damn all of the small market stuff. The Padres locked up their budding star in Fernando Tatis Jr. with a $340 million dollar deal over

The Over Ponder Ep 20: Stopping Knicks Crazy

The New York Knicks have given all of us Knicks fans many reasons for hope - for this season and the future. Yes, actual REAL HOPE! Of course, some (only some) Knicks fans - scarred for the torment of the last twenty years - just don't know how to handle the brief, minor success. This Knicks fan uses a rare empty Friday Night without the Knicks to tackle some of the craziness that is happening in the young season. I talk Quickley, Payton, potential trades, developing young guys, and so much more.  It's been a long time since I had a Knicks rant, and this episode was evidence of that.

It's Too Late For Mike Trout

Call me crazy. But maybe, I could be, right?  It's too late for Mike Trout.  Yes, I'm well aware that MLB's reigning number one player for what feels like the 43rd year in a row (sarcasm) is only entering into his age 30 season in the MLB. And even that fact makes the situation feel as if there is so much room for potential in the embodiment of Mike Trout. That is just remarkable, really.  But, after years and years - and years! - of all of us baseball fans wanting Mike Trout to be THE GUY in baseball, I do believe we are entering a phase of "too late" for Trout. Despite all of the numbers, analytics, assessments, wants, wishes and expectations for this phenom from Mellville, New Jersey, the one so many true baseball fans wanted for him was this - undisputed face of baseball.  Like Jeter, before him. Like Griffey, before Jeets.

Would You Rather: Questions 151-160

In this latest edition of Would You Rather, yours truly goes with a classic Harry Potter theme courtesy of those fine folks at Buzzfeed .  151. Would you rather drink butter beer or pumpkin juice?  The butter beer option is highly intriguing. But despite the fictional world, the rationale of it sounds highly concerning. Like, butter beer? I don't know. Yeah, pumpkin juice just sounds like a good, normal, go-to for muggles. However, I'm still highly intrigued by butter beer, but only in a fictional Harry Potter world, I guess.   152. Would you rather learn to apparate or become an anigimus?  This is easy. Give me the ability to apparate. That's cool. I really don't have any interest in being any type of animal. Not at all. I'll pass.  153. Would you rather stay the summer with the Malfoys or Dursleys?  Oooooh, this is a good one! Stay with me on this, but I would choose the Malfoys. I really believe they're misunderstood. There needs to be a 60-Minutes expose on

Dome Pondering Celebrates 2000!

2000 posts.  It has surely been a journey for yours truly authoring this entity that is Dome Pondering. Here I am after all of these years still penning thoughts, opinions, experiences, and everything else that enters this dome of mine.  2000 is special. It's longevity. It's commitment. And of course, it's life. For many of those 2000 posts echo and paint the picture of my life throughout the years. With many even expressing contradicting messages, or simply, exposing a young mind in much need of refinement. I'm sure I'll write the same thing at the 3,000 (or 4,000) celebration post - God-willing.  Nonetheless, I continue to find it in me to want to keep expressing sentiments through this thing called Dome Pondering. While it's become much more difficult to do so, as expected as life's responsibilities increase - I still have the desire to do so. And most importantly, enjoy doing so. And in many ways, the need to do so.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/14/21

3 Up 1. Law Enforcement at the Capitol - The footage we saw during the impeachment hearings, especially that of the newly never-before-seen footage, was tough to watch. At the same time, it provided even more appreciation for the efforts taken by the law enforcement presence during the riots, as well as lengths of their injuries and mental challenges since January 6th.  Some of the footage of Eugene Goodman was downright heroic and pivotal to what could have escalated to another level of tragedy. The video of him running by Senator Mitt Romney is one that continues to prove that.  2. JJ Watt - I don't know what is going on in Houston - it seems all of their household sports names are leaving town. Add JJ Watt to the list who released a video via Twitter this week explaining to the world his request for a release from the Texans, and of course, his appreciation for the city of Houston. Watt is a class act, and the kind of athlete you want in a franchise representative.

Expected, But Still Perplexed: Thoughts from Trump 2nd Impeachment Acquittal

The feelings I have following President Trump's second impeachment hearing are complex. For the many days leading into this, I already knew what the result would be - because well, we all did. There just never - ever - seemed like there would be enough votes to convict the former President throughout this process. We've come to expect this. And we have yet to see any indication where accountability would triumph over allegiance to party...or loyalty to Trump.  Or really, like the right thing would be done.  Yet, here I am following the announcement of an acquittal, and I find myself feeling disappointed, concerned, and in various ways, perplexed. After all, I thought after the riot at the Capitol, that maybe - just maybe! - the nation would finally provide the moment that turns the tide to some sort of accountability within and from our government.  I was naive. Naive to believe that this country would provide a step against the presence that plagues this country. But white sup

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 2/7/21

3 Up 1. Chicago & San Francisco Schools - It's about time. During a period when the value of our teachers are not only the lowest it's been, while ironically being the highest - isn't it glaringly obvious the vital role they play in our society? - two massive cities in Chicago and San Francisco have worked out deals to safely return teachers to in-person learning. So many kids in those areas need this...and yes, parents as well.  2. Tom Brady - Seven Championships. That's it. That's all. Not much else can be said.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 1/31/21

3 Up 1. Harriet Tubman on $20 Bill - It seems like President Biden is making a push to get this done. Is it a huge deal that will change the salient issues facing the country right now? No. However, I just think it's cool that Tubman, a black woman of historical significance in this country, only taught or honored when February rolls around, is getting such an honor. That's cool. And it represents progress.  2. Australian COVID Record - Another interesting "up" this week is the focus of Australia's COVID relief work. They've had deaths and hospitalizations, but when you focus on their numbers and how they have fought the virus, it is hard as an America to wrap my mind around it. In Western Australia, they just had their first COVID case in 10 months, and the entire region of 2 million will enter lockdown once again. Because of how we've handled it, I just can't seem to wrap my mind around that kind of operation, planning, and mindset.
