Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/29/18

3 Up  1. Anne Hathaway - You know what's the best weapon against racism? Allyship from the majority group, specifically, yes, white people. And being a white mainstream celebrity isn't too bad, either! Kudos to Anne Hathaway for speaking out on the unfortunate situation of Nia Wilson, and on the privilege at play in our daily lives, and in our society. More importantly, the way such privilege offers different psychological pressures, and ultimately, a different lived experience. A different America. But I think we know this. It's really who chooses to accept it. 2. LeBron James School - Say whatever you want about his basketball legacy, what LeBron has done in the spectrum of social justice, in giving back to his community and offering access for the youth in Ohio is incomparable and immeasurable. I'm a fan of this dude. And yes, I appreciate that he doesn't "just shut up and dribble." 3. Hall of Fame Inductions - Six great ball players went i

Hogan, Hader, and the Unknown

Is prior racism forgivable?  It's a loaded question and one that seems to have presented itself in the ever-evolving battle we have in our country. When do we allow and validate a person's change of heart from the the depths of previous discriminatory behavior? The question is an interesting one, especially when blended with the likes of white privilege and an underlying (thick) layer of foundational and systemic racism in this country.  When the stories of Hulk Hogan being reinstated to the WWE and Josh Hader's controversial tweets from his teenage years made their way to the public forefront, it was an interesting dynamic in which left me very curious on how our society would approach the different social issues. I found myself thoroughly intrigued to watch the response, the reaction, and the fallout.  Both men, at one time, regardless of when, stated nasty things. We're not talking about easy shades of ignorance and stereotypes, or even daily micro

Different Angles. Different Summer.

Where is that line?

Thump. Thump. Thump. Where is that line?  Have you found it?  Thump. Thump. Thump.  Is it worth the frustration? Will you ignore it? Thump. Thump. Thump.  What is forgiveness?  Do you understand it? Thump. Thump. Thump. Why are you compassionate?  Can you continue to give it?  Thump. Thump. Thump.  How much more can you take?  Your body. Your armor. Your balance?  Where is that line?  Have you found it?

Dome Pondering Movie Review: Candy Jar (2018)

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/22/18

3 Up 1. U.K. Supermarket - A supermarket in Britain has committed to one hour dimming the lights, sounds, and everything that contributes to sensory overload to allow customers with autism to shop. I love everything about this, as we all - all of us - often place ableism on the back burner of the equality fight. So much respect for those in leadership at Morrisons. 2. Home Run Derby - How awesome has the derby been since switching over to the timed format? Another HRD provided us yet another great moment with Bryce Harper's 60 second onslaught to win the crown. And oh yeah, Cubs fans need to calm down on the complaining/nit picking of the rules. It's supposed to be fun, folks. 3. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - The Brahma Bull (can us pro wrestling fans still call him that?) according to Forbes is now the highest grossing actor in the world. $124M! The Rock has come a loooooong way. Even before pro wrestling, it's hard to imagine the dude once had just $7 to

3 Up 1. Thailand Boys Rescued - This story was captivating, and even becomes downright addictively intriguing when you really get into the research methods used to save these boys and their coaches. And let us not forget some of the fatalities that occurred to get this done as well. 2. World Cup - How absolutely phenomenal was this event? I'm already sad to see it go. With a newborn in tow for myself, I watched so much of it, and it all, was so, so, so good. Best in my lifetime, for sure. Congratulations to France - albeit via immigrants of African nations. But that's a different message for another post on immigration hypocrisy. 3. Isner vs. Anderson - 6 Hours and 36 Minutes. Just as great as the World Cup has been, Wimbledon was just as fantastic. Isner and Anderson provided an absolute classic. 3 Down 1. Papa John - This dude is an absolute clown. This story is such a reminder of how these scenarios only result in action due to public backlash. And of course, ho

Dear Son, Prior Generation

--22 Days Old--- Dear Son, It's been three weeks since you entered this world, and ever since then, you've given us joy, smiles, love, countless Google searches, plenty of shoulder shrug I-give-up moments, countless "spit-up" shower/laundry drills (we have this down now - it's such a tight operation), a lifetime subscription to sleep deficiency and an immediate annoyance to parenting advice from those who wish to give it unsolicited. But you know what, between all the unknowns, the shrugs, and the fatigue, you flash a moments smile, and we're back in the game. And if we capture it on our phones, it's like a bases loaded, 3 RBI, triple. Yet, as the days peel off the calendar board, and sunrises and sunsets aren't exactly lining up mentally in our place in comparison to earth's time continuum, this third week of your existence brought you visitors - your first! - in the likes of your grandparents. By now, you probably know you are lucky

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/8/18

3 Up 1. Independence Day - So, it wasn't on a weekend. And it yes, if you look passed the shady propaganda of immense filtered propaganda, there is some real ish there. However, despite it's imperfection, oppression, and disregard for truth, America is great. Happy Birthday to a special nation! 2. Boys Rescue in Thailand - As of this post, only four of the thirteen boys have been saved. However, the rescue missions have captured the world in the lengthy and tremendously daring attempts to save these boys. The quest will continue well into next week. 3. Golden State Warriors - I wrote about it this past week (Applaud the Golden State Warriors), but these dudes just added another - ANOTHER - all-star! As mentioned, what the Warriors are doing in the modern era of sports, and salary caps, and of course, egos, is absolutely tremendous. 3 Down 1. Race-Blind" Admissions - I can't believe this hasn't gotten more push in talks on the mainstream front. This ad

Applaud the Golden State Warriors

Quite the title for this post, huh? Maybe you're wondering if I'm OK. No worries, I'm totally and completely fine. I'm thinking rationally and clearly. But yes, applaud the Golden State Warriors on their latest acquisition of Demarcus Cousins. Maybe even a standing ovation. Again, totally feeling normal. As the NBA world and sports fans clamor, and at times cry, about competitive balance and the 2018-19 season being over, I'm not in that same mind frame. I found what the Warriors did to be absolutely genius, downright bold, and quite frankly, something that should spark appreciation, and even dare I say, competition - YES, COMPETITION - around the league. So no, I'm not going to quit basketball. I appreciate the game too much, and quite frankly, it get's me through the Winter until baseball returns. And no, I'm not fed up - after all, let's be honest, I'm a Knicks fan. Along this theory, I would've given up a long time ago. What I am

Would You Rather: Questions 91-100

91. Would you rather play Super Smash Brothers or Mario Kart? Mario Kart all the way. That's probably also because I've never played Super Smash Brothers. I hear good things though... 92. Would you rather see someone trip and fall or see someone start dancing out of nowhere? Start dancing out of nowhere. I'll admit, I have child-like humor for people who trip and fall (as long as it isn't too serious), but the dancing stuff is so random, that it's awesome. I've been in the vicinity of a flash mob here n New York City, and it was absolutely fantastic. Give me the dancing.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 6/1/18

3 Up 1. Allen Crabbe - Pro Athletes at times can get such a raw deal in terms of their generosity and philanthropy. This is one of those cases where even the harshest critic of the pro athlete has to give it up. Crabbe donated a significant amount of money to his high school in order to keep the doors open. Big fan of this story. 2. World Cup - I Know LeBron (with help by ESPN) tried to steal the thunder away, but EVERYTHING about the World Cup right now is absolutely riveting. With all of the upsets and new stars within soccer emerging, the event is the best one I've witnessed in my lifetime thus far. 3. LeBron to LA - As much as I'm jealous for the Lakers and Celtics who never seem to have long stretches of hard times (just this Knicks fan complaining), it is nice to see LeBron making decisions for him this late in his career. All the best out West. And now, the East is wide open...Come on Knicks, let's make a run! 3 Down 1. Maryland Newspaper Shooting - Jus
