Review:
A Part of You turned out to be a very layered film. I wasn't sure what to expect as it began. The most pivotal scene of the film is certainly a hook that grips you for the rest of the film.
What enfolds is a mix of a film bordering on beauty and thoughtfulness, some lack of development, ut overall, an interesting story of tragedy, truth, and how it affects the many tied to it. While the film is told from the perspective of Agnes, it is interesting to see the story and larger plot of the tragedy unfold from the perspective of others.
Some may perceive the plot holes, or vagueness in character as a weakness due to the one-character perspective, but that nuance and mystery does add to the film in leaning into the viewers' thoughts as the film carries on. It can be odd in the middle of the film.
Felicia Maxime is great. I'm not aware of her or her talents, but I thoroughly enjoyed what she brought to the film in various roles.
Give it a try. If you can get past the translation (sometimes the voice dubbing is very misaligned with the acting, which can be distracting), the uncomfortable moments, and the need to be active in the storytelling, then this might be for you.
