Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/9/15

3 Up

1. Frank Gifford - Unfortunately, the sports world lost Frank Gifford this week. From his legend at USC, with the New York Giants, and finally, as a broadcasting legend, any sport manager or fan understands the impact Gifford has had on the sports and athletics industry.

2. Toronto Blue Jays - After making the deal for Troy Tulowitzki and David Price, the Blue Jays have gone from a pretender to a serious threat in the AL East with a bludgeoning win-sreak. The Jays have rejuvenated an entire fan base and country as the Jays look to end their playoff drought.

3. GOP Presidential Debate - The debate drew some big time ratings, but it also introduced many of the faces, positions, and stances we will hear in the coming months. Solid debate, with hopefully more to come.

3 Down

1. Floyd Mayweather - Yup, "Money" Mayweather is the big loser this week. I don't care about Mayweather's money. We all know his bank account is very healthy. However, choosing Andre Berto for his "final" fight this week was super lame. Whoever pays for that fight is a fool. I think the guy is good, but this selection really dents his legacy and lends to the argument he is only undefeated because of who he picks. And oh yeah, his spit-spat-return towards Ronda Rousey was also very, very, lame. The fall back on money is tiring.

2. Donald Trump - We all know Trump doesn't play well, and it's probably the reason he is so successful, but his backlash towards Megyn Kelly following the debate was uncalled for and classless. No political message here, but that's not the type of person I want representing this country if he can't handle a woman asking him hard questions.

3. Wrigley Bomb Threat - This is so sad. A police officer was quoting as saying, "we get dozens of bomb threats weekly, but this one is more credible". WHAT?! What is wrong with people. Seriously. Glad everything turned out alright.

3 Up 1. Gun Control? - Wow. We have somewhat new gun legislation - so it is possible?! Of course, I'm being a bit cheeky in regards to the recent new plan to offer background checks for gun purchases, which really is a big part of the gun control debate. No?  2. Solar Eclipse - I didn't get a chance to experience it, but the idea of it is rather cool. Our world - and universe - is a remarkable experience and thought.  3. Women's Basketball Ratings - The boost continues as women's hoops continue its surge in ratings, interest, and overall star power. It will likely continue next week with the WNBA Draft.  3 Down  1. Iran Missiles on Israel - The entire saga in Gaza continues to get more complex. Throwing Iran into the mix, and now the US intercepting drones and missiles, the entire thing is super sad as innocent people continue to be killed.  2. Tennessee Teachers Carry - Well, just when we thought the gun debate was moving toward a reasonable decision, we get the sta

WWE Wrestlemania XL Review: "I absolutely loved this Wrestlemania"

It's easy to get caught up and become a prisoner of the moment. Especially in today's world where the latest moment is ostracized, super-analyzed, and hyperbolized - it's very much the clickbait, social media, microwave society we live in.  Yet, even after acknowledging that (as well as my Tribal Chief, of course), I still come to this feeling that Wrestlemania XL is one of the best Wrestlemania's, ever.  Yes, ever!  I don't need Triple H's metrics and benchmarks to influence me. No, no, no! In terms of hype, storylines, payoffs, match quality, and just overall fun - this entire weekend was amazing.  I'm slightly skewed in my preference as well. This was my son's first Wrestlemania as a pro wrestling fan. Having him at my side cheering on his favorites, getting caught up in the drama, and even crying at the end of the night because his Tribal Chief lost to "that no good Cody" added to the overall appreciation of the event.  So yeah, I have some

50 Wins and the #2 Seed

The New York Knicks are the #2 Seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.  Unbelievable.  Oh yeah, they also put together an unbelievable fifty-win season to do so.  I've already expressed some thoughts on this season - from the trade of RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to Julius Randle's injury and obvious absence to the brilliance that was Jalen Brunson - there has been so much to take in, and appreciate.  I can't say it enough - I love this team. THIS team.  Just a few other quick thoughts as we reflect on 50 wins and the #2 seed before heading into a tough first-round series with either the Miami Heat or Philadelphia 76ers:  I know Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the hot narrative for MVP and there is a big-time Serbian in Denver who easily makes a claim for the award once again, but damn it, Jalen Brunson deserves recognition and some lower-place votes. That's all I'm asking for... Speaking of giving flowers to Jalen Brunson, it's about time a real basketball dis
