Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/7/13

3 Up

1. July 4th Weekend - I love summer, this blessed nation, and barbecues. July 4th simply puts those all together for a really awesome time.

2. Andy Murray - Winning Wimbledon is a big deal. Ending a 77 year drought for the Brits claiming the mid-summer major - historic.

3. Bruce Bochy - Kudos to you on not caving into the pressure of adding Yasiel Puig to the National League All-Star team. Allowing the fans to vote him is the right decision. There are too many guys who are well deserving to have their spot taken by Puig.

3 Down

1. Asiana Boeing 777 Crash in San Francisco - Plane crashes are never good, and always serious business. But when you hear stories of the pilot not logging enough hours to properly operate the plane, it makes you really worry about traveling. Really, it simply makes you think about how sudden your life could be over.

2. Anderson Silva - Dude, you got exactly what you deserved. Showboating is flashy and impressive when it you pull it off, but if you get knocked out while doing it, then that's just embarrassing. Still boggles my mind how you come into a title match and pull a stunt like that. Stupid.

3. Los Angeles Lakers - For being desperate and caving in on your integrity with billboards all over Los Angeles, tweets with #stayD12, and pretty much fawning over the needy demands of Dwight Howard. I'm no Lakers fan, but even I understand the purple and gold sells itself. Lost a lot of respect for the Lakers, and some of their fans that hopelessly wanted Dwight Howard to stay, just to suddenly turn vile once he didn't. You're all better than that.

And...

1 Tweener

1. Joey Chestnut - Because I'm not sure whether eating 69 hot dogs is impressive, or just downright disgusting. Only in America...

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
