Sunday Sundown Rundown - 7/20/14

3 Up

1. Stuart Scott ESPY's Speech - By far the best thing to come of he ESPY's was learning more of Scott's battle with cancer, the depth of it, and most importantly, his attitude towards life and his fight with the horrific illness. The best part in my eyes was this very quote - "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, while you live and the manner in which you live."

2. Mesut Ozil - Kudos to the German World Cup champion who has agreed to pay for the surgeries of 23 children in Brazil. What a gesture, especially for those families. Makes you wonder what exactly do much wealthier athletes do with their funds?

3. FOX Sports - What an effort put forward by the FOX broadcast crew in presenting the MLB All-Star game. From the production, video packages, interviews, coverage, and overall presentation, it was vastly improved over previous years, and very impressive.

3 Down

1. MH17 - What is there it say? Especially when flight MH370 is still out there somewhere. This situation is devastating. 270 bodies gone. So, so, so sad.

2. Gaza-Israel Conflict - You just knew this situation would flare up and it has begun. The situation between Israel and Palestine is now resorting to deadly measures and is very much a cause for concern.

3. ISIS Rampage - The ISIS invasion in Iraq continues as minorities and Christians have been warned to either convert, pay extremely high taxes, be sentenced to death, or leave. All of the U.S. efforts in years passed is now very much in jeopardy, if not, already gone.

And because the world has been super wicked as of late...

4. Chicago - Another bloody weekend. When will the violence stop?

What is it about? A recent high school graduate cares for his mother while attempting to navigate his first relationship following his father's suicide.  Who is in it? Travis Tope - Sam Nimitz Katherine Hughes - Ellie Vaughn Favorite Scene: [spoiler alert] Sam plays his song for his mom. Favorite Quote: Ellie: "I wish we could have met down the road, maybe when we were like 27." Sam: "I think we needed each other now." Review:  Say You Will was an absolutely pleasant surprise of a watch from the Amazon Prime offerings.  I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one, but after the credits rolled, it was a movie that provided authentic characters and a great lesson on life. We don't always have to have everything figured out, and it's okay if you don't.  What makes Say You Will so beautiful is that all of the characters are carrying some inner struggle that connects them in the moment and time that helps them through whatever it is. The unlike...

Trying to Stay Mellow on Melo and his "Brand"

(Courtesy: NYTimes/Richard Perry) Alright, fire up the rant machine after this one folks.  "What's understood doesn't need to be spoken upon" #DestiNY #TheFutureIsNow — Carmelo Anthony (@carmeloanthony) June 26, 2015 Carmelo Anthony really hasn't been winning any points with me lately. None. I've been indifferent on him even as the years have gone on and the Knicks fanbase continues to split on supporting him. Lately, I've been creeping over to the negative side. For me, a big deciding factor was when he decided to play in the Knicks game in London and in the meaningless All-Star Game to continue "building his brand", and thus delaying his needed knee surgery to the point of affecting his return for this upcoming 15-16 season.
