Dope Sports Threads - 2017 Spring Training Wear

This is a section of the blog I've been looking to add for a long time. As you can probably tell from Twitter and from previous sections (like here and here among others) of the blog, I'm a big nerd when it comes to the aesthetics of sports and athletics (uniforms, courts, fields, stadiums, apparel, etc...) and I figured why not add it to the blog. After worrying about formatting and ways in which to present it, I just decided I'll just - as I typically do - just punched the keys on what comes to mind.

First up, the newly released MLB Spring Training Caps and Jerseys. You can see the entire reveal here.

Some of my thoughts on the entire collection:

These are absolutely fire. Love the idea of the Mariners incorporating the old logo into the new color scheme - which is one of the best in Sports. The Mariners, Seahawks, and Sounders are lucky in that is aspect.

I'm a little disappointed that the New York Mets did without Mr. Met on the Spring Training hats. They made for a good look. How many teams use their mascot in their uniform detail? Especially as the main feature.

Can the Brewers just officially make the "M"-mitt style logo their official logo? Like, seriously?

Where do us Yankees fans write to New Era for next year? The home hats with the pinstripe brim are atrocious. The road hats are a bit more normal, so I guess that's okay? I vary from actually wanting one, to that of just wishing they stuck with the classic midnight blue and white logo hat.

I've always loved the slogan, "Train to Reign", but I am not a fan of this year's designs. They feel a bit too template-like, which I understand is the point for sales and distribution by Majestic. I wished they took a bit more creative freedom with the logos and colors the way New Era did with the hats (sans the Yankees Home hats, of course - woof). Also, is it me, or is Colorado's sweatshirt a bit hard to read?

And finally, my absolute favorite part of the 2017 Spring collection is that of the fabric pattern of the numbers on the Spring jerseys. It's not something that will pop on the field, but it adds another dimension should you purchase one of these jerseys for casual wear. Well done.

A great gift to us.   2. A'ja Wilson - The WNBA has entered our mainstream sports landscape because of Caitlin Clark. Yes, that is very true. But there is an amazing talent in A'ja Wilson who continues to dominate, and this week, she set the single-season scoring record and likely will do the same in smashing the single-season rebound record.  3. Thoughts on Second 2024 Presidential Debate

That was soooooooooo much different than what we witnessed in the first debate.  So. Much. Different.  Yet, why does it still feel like not much was impacted? Overall, I stepped away from this debate with the overarching theme that Kamala Harris did what she needed to do. And that was not engage in a pity back-and-forth with Trump who wants to muddy the waters of any debate or discourse, force him to bring something new to the table and force him to get into a policy discussion beyond the usual surface sayings and fire-alarm narratives.  She did that.  For Trump. He has his voters. He is not losing them. But I thought Trump didn't do enough to interest those voters who have soured on him as well as those who are not yet sold on Kamala (this administration, or even the Democratic Party).  We saw the same from Trump. No need to answer questions. Dictate the narrative with what you want. Reply with emotion. Evade policy discussion. And you know, be Trump.  Was there a winner? In a tra
